I often wonder what is the common factor of the sports teams and athletes that are successful year after year in competitions and I personally think it all boils down to having a great coach. A great coaches assesses the talent they presently have and will work to maximize the athlete's strengths. This makes the individual and team better at what they do. Now what do top business professionals like Bill Gates, have in common with these athletes? They realise that to accomplish their goals faster, they need the help of a coach. A coach assists them to realise their full potential, maximize their talents and helps them see their opportunities in career, business, and life. So why is having a coach so great? They will help you with the following: nn1. Clear Goal-Setting Your coach will ask you a variety of questions that will force you to take a good, honest look at your life. e.g. "Where are you now?" and "Where do you want to be in one year, five years, 10 years, etc.?" Based on your answers, your coach will work with you to develop a personalised plan that fits your needs. Your coach will hold you accountable for achieving the plan and help you find ways to accomplish it.nn2. Motivation Let's face it, many times we get distracted from our goals and end up not getting near to achieving them, be it due to distraction, lack of motivation, not enough time etc. nBut your coach will find the motivating factors that are important to you and keep you focused on your goals. For instance, you may have a goal to get physically fitter in the next 6 months because a few people in your family have died young with heart attacks. This is a motivating factor, it is the reason why you want to get fitter. You may not want to get up early to go to the gym, but by keeping your why in front of you, you will stay motivated and eventually achieve your goal to be fitter. nn3. Honest Feedback Your coach will give you constructive, honest feedback so that you can take the steps to go to the next level in your career, business, and life. Feedback is vital for improvement. Could you imagine a sports coach never giving his team any feedback about their performance during the game? Or even worse only giving negative feedback? How would the individuals on the team know what areas to improve on to become successful? In the same way, the feedback your coach gives you will keep you on track to be more successful.nn4. Confidential. Just you and your coach will know what your goals and plans are for success. Often the reason people do not ask for help or guidance is because they do not want others to know their weaknesses. All coaching sessions are confidential and all feedback is kept between you and the coach. Do what successful people do and find a coach that meets your unique needs and helps you accomplish your goals quickly. It will save you time and you will be amazed at the results.
