Patients however must ensure that they do not take prune juice or prune in excess lest they can suffer from severe bouts of diarrhea. - Fresh fruits: fruits are rich in fiber particularly if it is consumed with the skin on. The nutrients, minerals and vitamins present in these help in improving the digestive system’s functioning thereby making it easier for one to have bowel movements. Some fruits that can be helpful include grapes, blueberries, strawberries, prunes, raisins and apples. Apart from these, there are few fruits that cannot be taken without peeling the skin, yet they are equally good for digestion. These include cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges, banana and papaya. - Whole grains: bran cereals enriched in fiber aids in alleviating the strain that is applied during bowel movements. Whole wheat pasta, whole grain bread, bran cereals, oatmeal, English muffins, bagels, and brown rice are equally beneficial in treating piles.
- Beans: most beans contain high percentage of fiber, and hence lima beans, black beans, black eyed peas, kidney beans, navy beans among others must be a part of regular piles diet plan.
- Green leafy vegetables: green leafy vegetables enriched in nutrients and antioxidants work wonders in digestion, and therefore Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale and spinach must be consumed regularly. Zucchini, celery, carrots, turnips, squash, cucumber, onions, cauliflower, tomatoes, broccoli and asparagus are equally beneficial for piles. Taking green leafy vegetables is one of the most effective natural remedies for piles.
- Bakery products made with refined flour such as pies and puffs, pastries, cakes and bread
- Spicy food particularly chilies
- Processed meat or red meat
- Caffeinated products such as chocolate, tea and coffee
