For those of you who have read The Soulmate Secret, you may recall the story of my friend Sean Roach, a successful CEO and speaker. At age 36, Sean was beginning to wonder if he’d ever find the right woman to settle down and start a family with. He traveled at least twice a week for work and had serious doubts that he’d be able to meet someone, given that he was hardly ever at home and spent only a day or two in each city. I shared with Sean some of The Soulmate Secret principles, and although he was quick to tell me that he was not a firm believer in this “tree hugging stuff” (as he fondly referred to it), he decided to give it a try. He set an intention to find his perfect match, created a Treasure Map filled with images of happy couples lying in the sand and hanging out in the backyard, and chose one image in particular—that of a man with a kid on his shoulders—to display on his iPod and cell phone where he could look at it daily. Three weeks later, Sean was on a flight to Orlando to give a speech. Although he usually spent the whole flight working or catching up on e-mails, this time he happened to notice the flight attendant, Pia, who served him a glass of red wine. After a quick twenty-four-hour stay in Orlando, Sean boarded the plane back to the West Coast, only to discover that the same crew was working on his return flight. About an hour into the ride, Sean overheard a passenger speaking rudely to one of the attendants and was moved to take action. As he came to the flight attendant’s defense, he found himself looking once again into Pia’s eyes. Noticing the spark, one of the other flight attendants said, “Sean should get an award for intervening like that, and I think his reward should be Pia’s number!” Sean did take down Pia’s number and called her a week later. From the first dinner they shared, they felt as though they had known each other for years. This is where we left Sean and Pia’s story at the time the book was published.

Here’s the update:

On December 26th Sean created an elaborate series of surprises for Pia. They were in Dubai, where Sean was speaking at an international conference. He woke her up at 4:00am to take her on a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the desert. When the balloon landed, a limo took them to a resort for a gourmet breakfast. Then a jet helicopter came to whisk them away to see all of Dubai from the air. After an hour of sightseeing, the helicopter landed on the helipad, on top of the Burj Al Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the world (by the way, Sean had to get special permission from the Sheik to land there; fortunately he had the right connections). When they stepped out of the helicopter, Sean got down on one knee and proposed. Pia said yes and accepted the stunning engagement ring that Sean had custom made especially for her. They are now planning a wedding for next year.

When I met Pia a few months ago I asked her to describe the moment when she knew that Sean was the one for her. Without hesitation, she answered, “On our second date, Sean showed me his Treasure Map. When I saw those images, which so closely resembled my own vision of the future, I knew he was The One.”
