If you want to REALLY achieve in life, goal setting is a MUST! This is ironic coming from me, Mr Practical...

Why?...

Because throughout my life, I've always hated anything to do with the word - THEORY! Just thinking about it puts me to sleep... zzzzzzzz...

It's true, that's how reluctant I am about theory. However...

THE SHORTCUT CAN BE THE LONGER WAY IN DISGUISE!

The amount of times in my life when I've had the 'practical mentality' towards something I really wanted to achieve, is astounding. I'd always want to jump straight in and JUST DO IT! (I'm not advertising the sportswear company, I promise!) And guess what? The outcome would always end up the same. This is what would happen...

I would have this thing that I want, or need, to achieve and then I start thinking, I can do this without setting goals, even though I know I should. Besides, I can do it much quicker if I JUST DO IT!". Everything goes great until I'm hit with a problem. Here's what ALWAYS happens...

I become confused and very frustrated, then one of two things will happen:

1) I quit, and on reflecting, I feel like a complete LOSER! Or alternatively...

2) I ironically start goal setting, and still feel like a complete LOSER for wasting all that time being 'Mr Practical'!

Either way, I end up feeling like an even bigger LOSER because it took much longer to JUST DO IT, then simply goal setting in the first place. I feel like even more of a LOSER, telling you about what a LOSER I WAS...

Does any of this sound familiar to you?... Be honest?... At least then I can feel a bit better about myself :-))...

WHY SET GOALS?

In case you haven't got the message by now, setting goals is very, VERY IMPORTANT, OK? Just so I can be sure you get me, I'm going to repeat it...

There's no if's or but's about it, goal setting is incredibly important!

Though I'm ramming goal setting down your throat, you actually DO set goals throughout your day, you just might not realise it! Take this for example...

You want to get to work at 9 o'clock sharp... that's goal setting...

You decide to set Sunday aside to do some shopping. Well, that's goal setting...

You decide you want to lose 7lbs. That's more goal setting...

Do you get my drift?...

Obviously, when designing your DREAM life, it's going to take a bit more advanced goal setting then those examples - A lot more! The psychological effect proper goal setting can have on you, is very beneficial. Take this example...

Let's say you are in 100,000 worth of debt, and on top of that, it MUST be repaid in just 12 months, if not, your home will be repossessed. Now, you are broke, even saying "One hundred thousand pounds" is foreign to you...

What to do?... Emigrate QUICK!...

JUST JOKING! But seriously though...

Just out of curiosity, would you have? Either way, considering the fact that you're strapped for cash, wondering "How is it possible I can pay back this sort of money, let alone in 12 moths" is very likely. The funny thing is, in the right context, that's not a bad thought to have. Here's why...

You see, when you ask yourself this kind of question, it's almost like switching your brain on and instructing it to start goal setting, in order to solve this 100k problem!...

You MUST, however, ask these types of questions with the right mentality. It's no good NOT believing it is possible because then, it won't be, and I can tell you this - You might as well just FORGET IT!
