This is one of the areas that trips up many entrepreneurs, especially at the early stages of the startup when rewards are months or years away. The fact is that nobody likes making mistakes, particularly when substantial amounts of time and/or money have been invested. It’s not the mistakes, however, that can derail the dreams of an entrepreneur, it’s how they are dealt with that will ultimately determine success or failure.

Behind every mistake in business lies a valuable lesson, but only if that mistake is seen in that light. Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs miss these learning opportunities as they instead focus their energy on regret and self doubt. Accepting mistakes as a part of starting a business, on the other hand, can instead frame mistakes as steps along the path toward achieving the end goal.
The truth is that many entrepreneurs don’t go beyond their first series of mistakes. This is the main reason that such a high percentage of small businesses fail at their early stages. It is at this point where regrets and thoughts like “Why did I ever think I could do this?” persuade people to let go of their dreams.

The entrepreneurs who go on to run successful businesses take mistakes, not as a sign of failure, but as an indication that they need to seek new answers and or new directions. These entrepreneurs do not equate mistakes to failure. They see mistakes for what they are; a part of the game much like making a wrong turn on the way from point A to point B.
Mistakes do not equal failure unless an entrepreneur believes that it does. The most successful people in business see mistakes as opportunities to learn on their way to achieving their goals and objectives. By following that mindset new entrepreneurs can seek their own level of success.
