I’m probably the only one that is going to tell you not to set this certain goal for 2012. Goals are great, goals are fantastic, and goals are certainly needed, but this goal has been going on within generations for generations. Enough is enough and we must take a different approach for our own sanity.

So it’s the New Year, and I’m sure there is about 80% of you who want a “new you”. A more fit, stronger, happier, richer, perkier (many ways), or younger, “new you”. When will we stop setting the goal to change who we are? To lose the same weight you’ve been saying you wanted to lose since the 5th grade?

I will never forget the day I had my “ah-ha” moment about my physical appearance. I noticed that every time I saw a picture from the past, I thought to myself “I wasn’t overweight, what was I thinking?” The next year goes by and the same thing happens with the same thoughts. It’s the same freaking cycle with my challenged brain. It was a few years ago that I stopped saying my New Years Resolution was going to be to lose weight. Enough of that crap.

Here is my new goal setting that I use, day to day, not for the New Year.

Accept. Appreciate. Achieve.™ Yes, I’m going to share my philosophy for a quick reminder and I hope that you take this approach for your 2012 New Years Resolution!

1. As a whole, work to ACCEPT yourself. Your mind, body, spirit and your life. No, do not settle, but open your eyes and see what is happening within you and your life. Even if it isn’t all going your way or on schedule, take responsibility. Own it, acknowledge it, ACCEPT it. Then find the appreciation. What are the pro’s? Lessons learned, education, a challenge? I believe that everything happens for a reason, so figure out the reason and grow from it.

2. How can you APPRECIATE anything within yourself or within your life if you don’t fully ACCEPT it? I believe that is pretty clear. Appreciating anything, or anybody, you have to ACCEPT before you can APPRECIATE.

3. Once you’ve conquered the first two, ACCEPT and APPRECIATE, the level to ACHIEVE is much greater and deeper. You will find to have more passion and drive to move and continue to move forward in a positive way.

There is no right or wrong answer with this philosophy and you can apply it as a tool in many ways. For your personal life, your business life, or even within relationships. I go through stages every day as I’m sure you do as well. We are constantly changing, evolving and being challenged. The three A’s help keep me focused and on track to succeed at my standards.

So ACCEPT, APPRECIATE, and ACHIEVE within yourself and within your life. That’s a great 2012 goal, isn’t it?

Author's Bio:

Susan Vernicek (vern-na-check) left her corporate graphic design job after being forced to stare at the “imperfections” of her face for a year. The business needed to get proportions “perfect”, and Susan was the guinea pig. Day in and day out, Susan would leave the office feeling awful. After all, just like most women, she loved magazines, never felt “good enough”, and constantly battled with her self image. Manipulating her face at the age of twenty five was the last straw- Susan was emotionally beaten up, and, knowing she was not alone, felt the need to use her graphic design skills to create something positive.

Hence, Identity was born – the online magazine designed to empower women to Accept. Appreciate. Achieve.™
