Stress Relief Techniques

Many years ago, children from birth to four or five years of age exercised natural preschool stress relief. Training in preschool stress relief was both unknown and unnecessary. Stay at home mothers never worried about trying to increase self-concept in their preschool children. They did not work to instill artificial coping skills and specialized anger management skills in pre-schoolers. Common sense dictated preschool stress relief efforts.

Unfortunately, stress relief techniques, such a stress management courses can be very expensive. They often need specialist instruction, such as EFT. They can only be done in certain times and places, such as a yoga class or may need a clear half hour of tranquil space to be effective, such as meditation. And some techniques, like Tai Chi, can also be difficult to learn and even unsuitable for certain people, such as the elderly.

With a simple observation you will notice many people around you are able to experience higher levels and more frequent degrees of stress. By comparison you will witness that the present economic times have caused more and more people to experience the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual effects of a huge increase in stress. It is no wonder that stress is the number one health problem in America today according to the American Institute of Health.

Another of the many practical stress relief techniques is working out and exercising. This may be something as simple as swimming, walking, cycling, jogging, going to the gym, or meditation, tai chi, yoga etc. Basically, any form of exercise when regularly practiced has proven to be a great stress reliever. If you can, divide your exercise into two: - meditative and cardiovascular exercise and allocate time for each. If you are working on a tight schedule, something as short as a 15 minute meditation in the course of your busy schedule can really help relieve stress.

Get a manicure and pedicure. When you need a quick pick-me-up, head to the nail salon and treat yourself to a mani and pedi. Science has proven that there are pressure points located on our feet and hands. These areas can cause additional pain during stressful times. A nice mani and pedi will help soothe those pressure points.

Exercise is a great way to stay fit and healthy. But did you know that it is also one of the natural stress relief techniques? Yes, exercise is a great way to unwind and relax after a stressful day. Some people love going to the gym. But if you are the type who does not go to the gym, you do not have to do so for relaxation. You can simply opt to jog or brisk walk around your subdivision. When exercising to eliminate stress, remember that you must not over-exert yourself. You simply have to enjoy the activity in order for it to remove your focus away from the stressor.

At reading time, the physical boundary is the reading circle, reading rug, or whatever part of the room you designate. The child is to be there and nowhere else. Doesn't this create preschool stress? No. It is strong preschool stress relief. When children know clearly that only one location is acceptable, control is established for them. They do not need to seek control by responding inappropriately. They can relax.

It's important to first understand the physiological effects of stress on your body. When your body encounters a situation where it feels threatened, a 'fight-or-flight' response is invoked, which causes your adrenal glands to release a hormone into your blood called Cortisol (also known as the "Stress Hormone"). In low doses, Cortisol can give you a short boost of energy. However, prolonged exposure can reduce immune response that can lead to sickness and disease.
