Many students are beginning to realize the growing part that China will play as an economic power during the coming decades. It is a nation that has also become industrialized and westernized in a very short period of time. It is no wonder that it is quickly becoming a popular destination for college students, and those in their gap year, who want to explore different cultures as well as learn new languages. Notably, Mandarin is regarded by English speakers as standard Chinese, perhaps because this standard Chinese form is based upon the Mandarin dialect that is spoken in Beijing. For these reasons it makes a lot of sense to study Mandarin in China.

But what particular study program do you choose? This is an important question because making the right choice early on can save you a lot of money, time, and stress. Studying at a good language school will ensure that when you study Mandarin in China you see effective results. The internet provides a wealth of resources that can help you with your decision. Unfortunately, the amount of information can soon become overwhelming, particularly if you have not travelled overseas before. Luckily, some websites, including nextstepchina.org put all the information you require into one place and present it in a manner that is easy to understand. By studying such websites it becomes easy to see that there is no reason why you cannot study Mandarin in China.

As China's capital it is not at all surprising that Beijing offers a wealth of high quality language schools where you can study Mandarin. In fact, when you study Mandarin Beijing you will find that not only will you learn the language but you also have access to some of China's most popular tourist sites. These include the Ming Tombs, and of course The Great Wall of China.

Perhaps the most impressive Mandarin Language school in Beijing is Peking University. Its Language Development Program offers international students twenty levels of instruction from beginner right through to advanced level. Peking University is also popular because of the beauty of the campus. Another popular university where you can study Mandarin Beijing is Tsinghua University. Over 2,300 students from over 100 countries study here annually. Widely known as China's 'MIT', Tsinghua has much to offer engineering and science students in particular.

Students who choose to study Mandarin in China quickly discover the benefits of their decision. By studying the language through cultural immersion (in the country itself) you can pick up the language much more quickly. Students also learn 'everyday' Mandarin rather than a formal version which may not suit all situations. Another benefit is the chance to experience the treasures of a beautiful and historic country. For these, and the other reasons mentioned above, it makes a lot of sense to think about studying Mandarin in China.
