Success Depends on "One"
Written by Don Blazer
If you want business to come to you, potential customers must know you provide the service or product they want.
So what is your business? What service or product do you provide? Explain your business in a single sentence of 10 words or less.
Curly, in the movie City Slickers, said the secret was “one thing” as he pointed his index finger toward the sky. (Later we all learned the “one thing” was different for each person.)
What is that ONE thing for you? (Keep in mind your unique talents and skills and you’ll probably discover the answer.)
You have to identify and embrace that ONE thing if you want to be successful. You can’t straddle the fence. If you trade horses—what kind? If you are a breeder—what kind? If you are a trainer—what kind? If you have a tack/feed store—what kind? If you have a boarding stable—what kind?
Reply that you trade all kinds of horses, breed all kinds of horses, sell all kinds of tack, board all kinds of horses for anyone and everyone and you’ll be struggling to attract business and make a profit. No one is as effective doing five things as they are doing ONE thing.
Decide on your niche (your unique talent or skill) and make that ONE thing your business.
Now you’ve got to be willing to devote ONE hundred percent of your time, energy and resources to marketing that ONE thing.
To be super successful at marketing your business and have customers coming to you, convince them if they want your ONE thing they’d be fools to buy or do business with anyone but you.
How do you do that— by demonstrating why you are the best choice, and prove it with overwhelming evidence. That’s easy when it’s only ONE thing, hard if you’re scrambling trying to do five things.
Know what you do, dedicate yourself, have a plan to convince customers you are the best at ONE thing, then be consistent and constant in working your plan so you’ll have a market impact.
Business will start coming to you, because you’re the ONE!
