Sundarbans National Park â A Wildlife Treasure

India is an abode of wildlife. You have many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in this country and thus it is a haven for an adventure lover/traveler or an environmentalist. The national parks of India have played a great role in the preservation of the various species, flora and fauna. When it comes to the national parks in India, the Sundarbans national park has a great relevance and is rightly called the tiger reserve of the country.
Sunderban National Park is considered as one of the most sought after tiger reserve of the country. It covers an area of 10000 sq km in Gangas delta. There has been a continuous promotion of Sundarbans. In the year 1973, it was declared as reserve for tigers; in the year 1977 was updated to wildlife sanctuary and attained the level of national park in the year 1984. In the year 1987, the UNESCO declared it as world heritage site. Keeping in mind the continuous updates and feats, this wildlife place has received since the past few decades; you may very well understand its value in the environmental and wildlife circles. In the Bengali language, Sundarbans is called the beautiful jungle and it is because of the Sunderbani trees inside the park, it got this name.
The Sundarbans national park is located in the Aprgand district of Bengal. It has a height of 7.5 meters. There are around 54 small islands on Ganga boundaries. This park is famous for world’s largest mangrove forest. There is lot of vegetation in the park and this includes rich grasslands, forests, mangrove scrubs etc. This region is full of fresh and saline water from Bay of Bengal and Ganges. You also have back dunes and tidal creeks here. There are seven rivers flowing in the park and they move towards the sea.
There are 64 different species of plants in the park and they have the capacity to withstand different tidal effects. You can see the yellow and red flowers. Some of the common trees in the region are Goren, genwa, dhundai, passur, and kankra.
The Sunderbani national park is a proud home of 400 royal Bengal tigers and 30000 deer. The royal Bengal tigers swim fast in the saline waters and none can match their beauty and strength at the time of swimming. They are powerful and fierce breed of tigers. They are highly dangerous and will kill a human being on spotting him. You can also get many other wild animals ranging from wild boars to the fishing cats. Apart from this, you have the saltwater crocodiles. You have different types of birds in this park ranging from blue eyed kingfishers to seagulls.
