Taking Precautions With Online Dating Sites

Online dating sites are not the singleton's final resort any more. Recent studies estimate that thirty percent of marriages result from an online meeting. The market for online dating world-wide is worth around four billion dollars, and over 1000 online dating sites exist. Due to the industry's growth, many new online dating sites have sprung up, usually aimed at particular niches (religion, location, interest, etc), and often delivered as mobile applications.
However, these sites are not always what they seem. If you are thinking about trying some online dating sites, here are 5 warning signs to look out for:
1. Websites requesting credit card information before telling you what the website is about - It is not uncommon for online dating sites to charge fees. Nonetheless, there ought to be a 'FAQ' or 'About us' section where subscribers can learn about the website's mechanics. Too frequently, websites do not provide you with access until you submit your payment details.
2. Websites that promote algorithms to find your match - This has been successful for a few of the big online dating sites, but a completely new website is not likely to have uncovered a revolutionary algorithm to match singles. It is more probable that they are attempting a new algorithm that MAY work, but is not proven, and that the algorithm is being featured mainly for advertising.
3. Websites attempting to offer you too many things - Rather than confining their service to matching people up, online dating sites commonly make the mistake of trying to surpass their competitors by featuring fictitious case studies, posing 'guarantees' and claiming to have the best scientific matching software in the world. In reality, the website will rarely be offering anything new.
4. False Subscribers Sending you Messages - This ploy is implemented to ensure that you stay engaged with the dating website, by thinking that someone (who is normally good looking) likes you. If the initial message is impersonal and if, once you reply, you don't receive a message in return, then it is probably a fake.
5. False Profiles - No singletons want to register with online dating sites that have hardly any members. So, new dating sites will often purchase profiles, usually from other websites, to give the illusion of lots of members. Obviously, this is deceptive to subscribers, who might register assuming that the website is bigger than it really is. They might also wonder why no one is contacting them, or why their messages to other members are never returned. If a new website instantly has 5000 subscribers, if the profiles sound generic, or if you notice very similar profiles (or an identical photograph) on a different dating website, this could be a give-away.
Make sure you research all online dating sites you are considering signing up with, and study the site's Terms and Conditions. It is better to register with online dating sites that are steadily growing, have an original and friendly approach, and that are up-front and honest with their subscribers.
