Telemedicine: How it Shapes the Patientâs Experience
Written by Kaushal Shah
- Improved access to care: Easily one of the most compelling and most significant benefits of telemedicine is that it allows patients to access care as and when they need it, without necessitating travel to a facility. This can prove to be especially important during an emergency or life-threatening situation; it allows doctors to decide if the patient needs to be rushed to a hospital immediately or how they can be tended till the patient can be attended by a doctor in person.
- Convenience: Another benefit of telemedicine is that it cuts down any necessary in-person visits to the doctor. How? Well, it enables patients to connect and consult doctors online. In addition to that, care providers can also access test reports, share their findings, diagnoses, etc. with patients over mobile devices, emails, etc. This way, patients don’t have to go running to a diagnostics center or the hospital to receive their reports and then to the doctors to consult them again.
- Better quality of care: In addition to ensuring access to doctors and care providers whenever patients may need it, the potential of telemedicine to deliver top-notch patient care is further fortified with the ability to track and store all of the medical history associated with any given patient. This, in turn, enables doctors to factor in past medical conditions, treatment plans, etc., accurately in their diagnoses and strategies to tackle the patients’ issues.
