Based out of Bordentown (Ward Avenue to be precise), in New Jersey State, the Albert C Wagner School is a correction facility school. It offers education from 8th to 12th grades under the high school category to Bordentown and nearby areas. Bordentown is a small town which is known for being the perfect mix of cosmopolitan, spacious localities and serene countryside farms.

This institution was named in the honor of Albert C. Wagner, the famed director of the New Jersey Division of Correction & Parole and a distinguished gentleman himself.
Vocational, social and academic programs form the basic emphasis part for this center. Most student inmates here are young offenders often held under narcotic charges and other offences. In terms of treatments, group therapy, psychiatric treatment and substance abuse treatment is available at the facility.

The Office of Educational Services Department of Corrections is the local agency for the Albert C. Wagner Youth Correctional Facility while the New Jersey Department of Education is state governing agency.

Student Based Demographics

A considerable portion of students here are Hispanic and Asian, at around 30 % (this includes Pacific islanders as well).

With internet stretching the information sharing aspects like never before, any secondary school directory will provide at least the basic details of alternative educational institutions like the Albert C Wagner School. But, there are many school and college directories which do not accommodate correction educational institutions and youth detention centers, and if these portals do accommodate them, they classify them in the ‘others’ category. In fact, many educational directories put these schools in the ‘alternative education’ category.

Courses Completion Aspects / Diploma Recipients

No doubt, most high schools offer H.S diplomas after successful completion of the course work, but what makes the Albert C Wagner School special is that more than 95 % of students opt for diplomas (the average is around 80 to 85 % for others). That means, GED recipients and other completers are very less (less than 5 %, considering the average of last few years).

All in all, institutions like Albert C Wagner School have to be commended for their efforts towards providing therapeutic and educational opportunities for young offenders.
