It is often seen that parents don’t allow their children to play outdoor games and indoor games. They think it will spoil their children. But there are certain games for which parents should encourage their children to involve themselves with. One of such games is Chess.

Chess is a game stresses the mind immensely. It develops the mental abilities of and helps develop the power of planning and strategizing moves. It also helps to improve concentration, abstract reasoning, critical thinking, pattern recognition, problem solving, analysis, strategic planning, synthesis, creativity, evaluation, etc. Chess can be used for the students as an effective tool to teach solving problems. Chess can be used to analyze a situation by focusing on the important factors and removing distractions. This game also helps us to make strong plans and also put a plan into action. Chess is self-motivating and thus is an incentive by itself.
Chess is not a new game and has been played by people around the world for more than two thousand years. It is believed that chess had its origin in India. Around the fourth century B.C. it was invented around in India by a Brahmin named Sissa at the court of Rajah Balhait. Then it was called chaturanga. Later, slowly, the game spread over the entire globe.
It is said that mathematical thinking is related to the type of thinking that is done in chess. And, mathematicians are more into chess as compared to any other game. It is also believed that mathematicians are also very attracted to music whereas musicians mostly do not respond back to this attraction.

Chess tickles the grey matter in the human brain and develops a deep concentration. This, it helps not only in improving the mental ability of the human brain but also the level of patience in a person. These days, chess has become a popular game across the world. In fact, schools also offer chess in the list of sports and games.

The game works as a problem solving tool. The more a person practices it, the more the person becomes sharper. The game gets improved with practice. It helps people, the chess players to go into the depth of anything because the game involves a lot of patience. It also develops skills related to strategic thinking and kindles intellectual creativity. One who plays chess and is a veteran in the game can assume the consequences of any situation. In schools, where chess is a mandatory game for the students, it has been found out that those students exhibit brilliance in their ability to recognize complicated patterns and consequently do extremely well in math and science. These students are also found to be more intelligent than the students who are not much into chess.
