The state of Goa is towards the western part of India. You will find Sahyadari Ghats to the east of Goa and Arabian Sea forms the western coast of the state. Goa is one of the most visited tourist State in India. Goa was used to be a Portuguese Colony. So a variety of Culture is demonstrated in its buildings, monuments and Churches. The architecture of the state strongly depicts the Portuguese ethnicity and way of life. The weather of Goa is enjoyable throughout the year. The best period to visit Goa is from October to February. During this period the climate is pleasant and calm. In short one should plan a trip during this period.
The places to visit in Goa are its renowned Churches. The Old Goa has many sacred Churches, Chapels which depicts incomparable beauty in its structural design. The Old Goa therefore is referred to as Golden Goa or Rome of the East. The famous to visit in Goa are Basilica of Bom Jesus which was created in the 16th century has the human remains of St.Francis Xavier reserved in a silver coffer. This Church is a World Heritage Monument in Goa. The other churches in Goa are Se Cathedral which has five bells, out of which the prominent Golden bell is the biggest in Goa and one of the finest in the world. The Church of St.Francis of Assissi, St.Cajetan Church, Church of Our Lady of Rosary and Ruins of Church of St.Augustine are some of the supreme Churches in Goa.The state has many legendary Temples like the Mangueshi and Shantadurga and the well conserved artifact of Tamdi Surla. The Shree Bhagavati temple, Brahma Temple, Shree Chandranath Temple, Datta Mandir and Mahadev Temple are some of the prominent temples to visit in Goa.
The beaches of Goa are known in the whole world for their ultimate charm and serenity. The well known beach in Goa is Calangute and is called as the ‘Queen of Beaches’. There are many restaurants and hotels located on the beach one can look for. Parasailing is a common sport on the beach. One will find exotic hand made goods and articles in the shops near the beach from different parts of India. Other beaches are Baga, Vagator, Anjuna, Aguada, Candolim, Colva, Majorda and many more. One should book hotel near the beach so one can enjoy sunrise and sunset which is an ultimate scene to look at.
The Arvalem and Dudhsagar are two eye-catching Waterfalls in Goa. It is one of the most famous destinations among hikers and trekkers. The Aguada Fort is the eminent fort in Goa located on the river Mandovi. Other important Forts are Cabo De Rama Fort, Cabo Raj Niwas, Chapora Fort, Mormugao Fort and Tiracol Fort. The Windsurfing, paragliding, jetskiing are popular water sports in Goa.
The Carnival of Goa is a major tourist attraction. It is a three day fest celebrated in the month of February. It is a time when people come together irrespective of caste and creed to celebrate, have fun and enjoy life. It is a festival of colors as people are dressed colorfully and with grace. Therefore it becomes necessary for an individual to plan a holiday to the majestic state of Goa to explore its indefinite fascination and splendor.
