The future of medicine is brighter than most people think
Written by Cynthia Madison
Technology took over almost all sectors of people’s lives. Thea healthcare system is one of the fields that require innovation. The better technology gets, the higher the chances to treat various diseases. It is important to know about each change that occurs in the medical world because it might be a chance at life for someone who struggles with the devastating symptoms of now-incurable diseases. Innovation in the field of medicine can entirely change the way people use technology and its benefits. If in some cases technology can actually be harmful and have no benefits at all, in others it is the key to finding all the answers. Researchers and professionals are working towards making improvements in terms of medical devices and techniques.
Listing all the possible concepts that are discussed in the present is irrelevant because they have no certain application in the real life. What is worth discussing and promoting are things that were successfully simulated and there are enough resources out there to put them into practice. Some of these concepts include neuroplasticity (that could revolutionize the entire medical world), pill robots (a subject that’s still considered sci-fi by many people), various materials that could replace the ones currently used in medical units, telemedicine (a concept that intrigues the US at the moment) or even 3M preferred tape converters. Read this article to learn more about each.
Neuroplasticity
Inducing neuroplasticity is a concept that has been studied for the past decade. It represents the brain’s ability to organize its matter and its functions in various ways. This could influence the way a person thinks and acts, or even the ability of the body to heal itself faster. The brain can change in terms of neurogenesis (the birth of multiple new neurons around different parts of the brain, which is supposedly impossible), synapses (new neural connections that become stronger and stronger through repetition) and so on. On the other hand, neuroplasticity can have negative impacts as well. For instance, brain synapses can get weakened instead of strengthening neuroplasticity doesn’t produce in the right conditions. Researchers found different ways to stimulate neuroplasticity and its positive effects. This phenomenon can occur when hormonal activity is enhanced, through DNA regulation/transcription or through neurotransmitters.
Pill robots
Even though it might sound out of place for some people, medicine is evolved enough to develop pill robots. In a few years from now on, non-invasive surgery will strive, and one of the instruments that can be included in it is represented by pill robots. The pill containing the smart robot (capable to remove bad cells or tumors from the body) is going to be swallowed by the patient and then it will navigate through the body until it reaches the digestive system. The robot will be guided by a certain sensor (like a magnet) to remove a foreign mass in the body. More than that, pill robots are fully biodegradable.
Innovative medical materials
Wearables and other medical materials are the focal points of future healthcare. If you previously looked for UK tape converters, you should know that most healthcare material providers already included them in the products they sell, which is a great step towards a better functionality of the medical system and not only. Most materials used in medicine can be applied to other industries as well. As for wearables, people already got used to wearing a smartwatch at all times, even when they shower. The capabilities of a smartwatch (tracking your heartbeat or how many steps you take each day) can be multiplied by 100 and the result is going to revolutionize medicine. Wearing a skin tattoo that gives you important details about your health condition seems to be the goal of the future. It is a convenient, comfortable alternative for devices attached to the body and it can save lives in just a glimpse. It could be a life savior for people who suffer from diabetes or other affections that require constant blood tests.
Telemedicine
Telemedicine is a concept that’s still under research in the US. Because many people feel too embarrassed or uncomfortable to go see a doctor when something seems to be wrong, specialists came up with a new idea – telemedicine. It involves choosing a virtual appointment instead of a face-to-face one. The appointment will be based on conversation and it will be anonymous. Another benefit of telemedicine would be the fact that people no longer have to pay huge amounts for simple, routine consultations. Conducting a virtual appointment can be effective for establishing a diagnosis, but if the doctor is worried about the patient’s health status, he can request the patient to run additional tests. Telemedicine is a controversial topic, but with enough research, it can become an approachable strategy.
