The hardest thing to deal with when using a remote control computer

Using remote control software to remotely administer a computer system has become more and more common. Tools that allow remote access to a PC are quite convenient, as they allow a system to be accessed from anywhere in the world.

There could be many reasons as to why someone would want to use this type of software. For example, accessing files that are located on a distant device, or providing remote technical support.

Even though software that allows for remote control computer use has now become more secure and powerful, there are still a few issues that users of such software tools aren't too happy about:

1. Graphics may sometimes appear choppy or lag when controlling a remote system. As remote access applications are rather bandwidth intensive, both the computer that is being controlled remotely and the one acting as a client will need to have a fast internet connection for them to work efficiently. Some software tools are better at handling this than others, as they employ good compression systems to reduce the quantity of data that needs to flow between the two devices. A few software programs also have an option to deliberately decrease the quality of the graphics when all that needs to be done is a simple task, such as copying a file.

2. Perhaps the most difficult issue to deal with when using a remote access program is providing remote technical support for certain problems. In order for an issue to be resolved remotely, the affected computer will need to be “healthy” enough to boot into its operating system properly and connect to the internet. But if it's not able to do so, then the remote access application simply cannot run. Performing certain actions that require a restart or a new installation of the operating system could also complicate things, as the connection between the two computers would need to be interrupted. Therefore, another means of communication, such as by phone, would have to be established beforehand between the tech support provider and the user. In an attempt to remedy this, come computer manufacturers have integrated remote access capabilities right into the device's BIOS. This means that a PC can be turned on remotely and fully controlled from a distant location, even if it's not able to load the operating system correctly. This greatly simplifies many remote troubleshooting and administration tasks.

But the problem is that currently, only a handful of PC makers support such a feature, which is usually found on high end laptops. Despite some of its shortcomings, remote control programs are still found to be quite convenient and are well liked by their users. However, those who employ them need to be aware of their limitations and make plans to overcome these as well.
