If you believe in horoscope readings, then you probably call it science; non-believers label it as fakery. Either way, you cannot possibly look up into the star-filled sky, and not wonder how they, along with planetary movements and alignments, affect our lives. Largely unexplored, the canopy of stars could hold so many undiscovered answers to so many questions – our earliest ancestors thought so and, ever since, it has remained a mystery as to how or if the combination of religion and science, known as astrology makes a difference.
What is astrology?
It is the study of the influence that cosmic objects such as stars and planets, have on human lives. Whilst some people believe that there is a connection, others do not. Some people believe that is does affect the world such as freak weather patterns, war and conflict and the like.
For humans, it is thought that the position of the sun, moon and planets at the time of a person’s birth shapes their personality, affecting not only their economic fortunes but also important life events such as romantic relationships, and much more. These ‘predictions’ in horoscope readings are known as divinations.
Your sign
As a result of studies carried out by a variety of people over centuries, a horoscope chart was created and broadly speaking, we were all born under on the 12 signs or constellations of the zodiac; hence, you will be asked by many people, “what start sign are you?”
Producing simplistic results, it is possible to generally comment on the person’s main personality traits and characteristics. But, as part of horoscope readings, you will be asked for the exact date and time of your birth; by using this specific set of data, the astrologer will be able to delve much deeper.
How does the time and date produce more accurate ‘results’?
To produce accurate horoscope readings, astrologers will use the date and exact time of birth to look at which sign of the zodiac each planet was in at the time, as well as how planets signs combine to create a more complex and specific profile of the person’s personality, life and future prospects.
Different cultures over the years have used the various astrology charts for different means; some charts are incredibly complex and involved, whilst others are far simpler to use. There is no one single unified practice or theory behind astrology; ancient culture, for example, practised in their own way. From these ancient practices from across the world, we find that the modern world has taken some aspects and are still in use today.
Eastern cultures still continue to use their own practice and theory today, whilst western culture has developed its own, but even within these various ‘sectors’, there is diversity. There is no one that is better than the others; it is differing interpretations but all aim to do the same thing – interpret the planets and the sun’s influence to predict life’s path.
These differing but not opposing practices are what give astrology and horoscope predictions the richness and fullness that we see today. Regardless of whether you believe there “is something in it” or not, those people who have received horoscope readings have found them uncannily accurate.
