Why is it important to set out your goals? The reason you set out your is because it will get you motivated to go out and achieve what it is you want to achieve in your life. Self help Guru Paul McKenna said: "Everything I have ever achieved in my life is the result of planning. That doesn't mean that nothing spontaneous ever happens in my life - it means that I am very clear at all times about the direction which I am headed."

As Paul McKenna said your goals have to be BIG and CLEAR enough to motivate you into action. Small goals are not enough to get you out of your procrastination. For example last year for my new years resolution I promised myself that I would lose a couple of pounds and so I joined a gym. Guess what after two weeks I got fed up so I quit going to the gym. The thing is I hate gyms! The reason I gave up so quickly is because I was not motivated enough to go and look silly on one of those moving jogging machines just to lose a couple of pounds. So it was a waste of an $80 monthly membership fee to a gym that I knew, deep down, I was not going to use! Fortunately though I did lose those pounds in the end by walking everywhere - instead of taking public transport.

The 9 golden steps in positive goal setting - what you need to do to for an achievable outcome:

1. STATED IN THE POSITIVE

"What specifically do you wan?t"

2. SPECIFY PRESENT SITUATION

"Where are you now?"
# You must be looking through your own eyes. (Associated)

3. SPECIFY OUTCOME

"What will you see, hear, feel, etc. when you have it?"

- As if now.
- Make it compelling.
- Insert in future. Be sure you see yourself in the picture. (Dissociated)

4. SPECIFY EVIDENCE PROCEDURE

"How will you know when you have it?"

5. IS IT CONGRUENTLY DESIRABLE?

"What will this outcome get for you or allow you to do?"

6. IS IT SELF INITIATED AND SELF MAINTAINED?

"Is it only for you?"

7. IS IT APPROPRIATELY CONTEXTUALIZED?

"Where, when, how and with whom do you want it?"

8. WHAT RESOURCES ARE NEEDED?

"What do you have not, and what do you need to get your outcome?"

- "Have you ever had or done this before?"
- "Do you know anyone who has?"
- "Can you act AS IF you have it?" AS IF means can you imagine you already have achieved your goal now.

9. IS IT ECOLOGICAL?

"Is it ethical to have this outcome?"

- "For what purpose do you want this?"
- "What will you gain or lose if you have it?"

So always remember to make your goals BIG and BOLD and, of course, realistic. What I mean by realistic is that say your income is now three hundred dollars a week don't expect to be able to buy a million dollar home. It is just not feasible unless,of course, you win two million on the lottery.... So don't be afraid to go and get what you want in life. Remember only you can achieve your BIG positive goals and be that winner you have always wanted to be!
