One of the questions I get asked the most is if English is not my first language, will English subliminal messages work for me? This is an interesting, and actually very astute question. I know that if I was to get subliminal messages in, say, Swahili, they probably wouldn’t help me, since I wouldn’t be able to say a single word in that language. So is English any different for someone else? The short answer is no, there is no difference. However, that is if the person asking does not know English at all. The answer changes drastically if the asker knows any English.

Subliminal messages, as the name itself implies, work on a subconscious level. This means that they completely bypass the conscious mind and go directly into your thought patterns. To give it an example that might be easier to understand, let’s look at taking medicine. If you have to take an antibiotic, you can take it in pill form. This means that you swallow the pill, your stomach breaks it down and takes the physical little bits of the medicine, and spreads it throughout your body. This takes a little time. You can also take a liquid form, which is broken down the same way, but liquid breaks down, thus spreads throughout the body, faster than pills. The last way to take an antibiotic is to get it in shot form. This takes the medicine and puts it directly into your system. There is no waiting, there is no processing of the medicine. It is rushed throughout your body virtually instantly. This is the same way subliminal messages work. They are shot directly into your system without requiring any processing.

With that definition, how does that help us decide if subliminal messages in a second-, or even third-language will help us? Going back to when people ask me if English will work, the thing to remember is that English is my first language. So when people write in to ask me, they write in English. This tells me that they consciously know how to write, read, and speak English, at least to an extent. In other words, their conscious mind knows at least some English. Anything that our conscious mind knows, our subconscious knows so much better. That is the nature of the mind. The subconscious soaks up so much more than we even realize. So for every word of English we have consciously learned, we have subconsciously learned ten other words. You may not be able to consciously express these words, but subconsciously, you will be able to grasp a lot more than you had dreamed possible.

Many people think that they should be able to read and understand what subliminal messages say in order for them to work. Because they are meant to be taken in without processing, if you know enough of the language to be able to write a letter asking if they will help you, your subconscious knows enough to be able to soak in the messages. There is no processing required, therefore your conscious doesn’t need to be able to translate anything. That is why the language of subliminal messages that will help is any language that you can at least communicate in.
