Of all the elements like air, water, sunlight, food is also considered to be one of the fundamental elements for survival, be it any species that inhabits the earth. The food that is available to us, the human species, should be in its organic state, free from poisonous pesticides or harmful chemical, which if consumed does what is supposed to do, that is, provide nutrition for survival. It shouldn’t be tampered in any way so that it does more harm than good. Different agencies and independent bodies are there to look after this fact which is becoming a growing menace in the modern society. Food is no more available in its organic state and there are many harmful chemicals that are being used for making them grow faster, not to mention the harmful chemical colorants that are used to make them shinier and look more fresh, and of course there is the pesticide hazard which leaves its residues on the raw food which do not really vanish completely even after the food is cooked. To make sure that the common man gets right to use and eat fit and safe and fit food free of unsafe or unhealthy substances, Food safety laws and regulations are set. The main role of this law is to ensure through the many governments as well as non-gove ment organizations, as also independent bodies that the food that is available to the end customer is free from any hazardous chemical in any form. The general public’s access to safe food is the main aim of these laws and regulations, and to look after the enforcement of these standards and measures are carried out by other bodies and agencies, which abide by the set laws. The World Health Organization or WHO is the most influential body that creates and sets in place food safety standards those are supposed to be followed throughout the world. But as of now, its regulations are mainly functional in the western countries mainly the US, UK, and the affiliated countries. There are other bodies in the United States like the US Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, and individual local or state groups, who create the food safety laws and regulations, and they are the responsible bodies for enforcing the set standards across the nation. The safest food which is both germfree and unpolluted should be available for consumption and that is the main aim of the law. There are other matters also that this law takes into account, that is, looking after the way food is frozen or transported, food handling, as well as food labeling, or mixing of different types of foods. The laws are there so as to make sure that no epidemic happens through food poisoning or any food-related bacteria. These laws are stringent in their watch over the maintenance if the set standards and any deviations are always punished. The food safety laws also look into the matter where a food item has to be declared unsafe for consumption by the general public, and inspect what are the reasons behind the food getting destroyed. As we all know that throwing away food is akin to committing a crime as there are many countries in the world where food related scarcity lead to millions of death, and hence it the duty of food safety laws to avoid such situations where a particular or many food items has to be discarded just because some human error or manipulation has led to the food being contaminated or poisoned.
