Happiness is what we all aspire to. But you will feel deep happiness only when you first choose to be happy. Yes, happiness is a definite choice, a chosen way of being, thinking and acting that inevitably leads to positive results. The simple techniques I outline below will help you get started on your way to being happy, no matter what negative happenings may come your way. Would you like to be serene and peaceful all the time, and cheerful no matter what happens?

It is not only possible, but part of your true inner nature to be happy and joyful. And this is the key: to become aligned with your true inner nature.

But first let me ask you what you think would make you happy.

Would you feel happy if you really enjoyed your job?
Would you feel happy if you had plenty of money?
Would you feel happy if your health was excellent?
Would you feel happy if you lived with your soul mate?
Would you feel happy if you had children, could give up smoking, were successful?

While all these things may feel good to experience, they are not what will make you happy. Happiness is an inside job. Nothing and no-one outside of you will make you truly, deeply happy.

You cannot buy a kilo of happiness or a pound of joy. In fact you cannot find or buy happiness anywhere. We are bombarded daily through advertising on television, on the internet, on the radio, in stores and from many other pressures, to just buy this product or take that course, or drive this car or wear this make-up, and you will feel fantastic. But this is the illusion of happiness, short lived and empty.

Happiness springs from how much you love and appreciate who you are. There. That is it. Happiness is more than a feeling, it is about who you are be-ing. It is knowing and loving yourself for who and how you are. Does this mean you have to be perfect? No! And that is the good part of being happy. You simply love yourself for the good person you know you are deep down inside. You do not have to be perfect or anywhere near it.

You may not have mastered all there is to learn and achieve and possess and experience in life – no-one has, but you can love and accept yourself with joy, trusting in your inner guidance to lead you along the way. This is the key to being happy all the time, no matter what.

So get started today. Look for ways to feel good, because this raises your energy vibration. Find joy in the simple things of life, like walking in nature (a very powerful way of feeling better almost instantly), stroking your cat, running with your dog or giving someone a hug. Yes, these are external things, but they open your heart to love and inner peace. Find ways to feel good about yourself. Smile. Smile from your heart and share that smile with others. You cannot feel bad and smile a loving smile at the same time.
