The Steps You Need to Take When Guest Posting on Blogs
Written by Patricia Cassidy
Guest posting on blogs other people own is an effective promotional ploy. But it is neither easy nor economical. There are times when you have to pay a few dollars to get the space you demand. Or hire someone to undergo the exhaustive process. But at the end of it, you can always expect some rewards in the form of traffic, exposure, lead generation and even advertising intent. But before you can even get to that, you need to perfect the steps to making one, whatever niche you intend on serving. To help you get started on it, here are a few you should keep in mind.
a. Decide on the niche and make the post. It is important that you write an entry first before you actually start determining which sites you would like to pitch it to as a feature. Not only will this help you assess your strengths and weaknesses as well as where you would most likely be applicable to. It will also increase your chances of getting approved. Remember that no one says “yes” to a guest blogger opportunity by word alone. Blog owners will need to see what your work would look like before they give a go signal.
b. Come up with a professional and respectful email elaborating the intent. How you introduce yourself and your purpose is pretty much as important as the content you put out. It is, after all, what blog owners first read when you reach out to them. So be responsible enough to highlight your credentials, present a few references and then cordially request for the chance to provide a guest posting on blogs. This should encourage your leads to open your work and decide to your favor.
c. Abide by the rules of the blog owner. If the blog owner raises some questions or conce
s, be vigilant in explaining and correcting them. It is the least you can do for the consideration you are asking them to extend. If they request you to change a few words or your style of writing before your work gets uploaded, do so or you’ll lose your chance at it. There are a few blog owners there who are sensitive to the write ups their site presents. And they do not want to have an entry uploaded that does not reflect their own standards.
d. Follow up the feature and thank the blog owner once it is made live. If the blog owner does not post your submission right away, reach out to them again. It is inevitable for them to be distracted by other conce
s or to have lost your email. And if they come through for you, always show your gratitude with a show of words. And if it’s possible, extend them the same courtesy they have extended you by either featuring their link on your website or marketing your own post as well as the main domain.
e. If you end up transacting for guest posting on blogs that require payments, honor your dues first before you push for the feature. This is tantamount to showing respect. And if you were in their shoes, you would probably want the same thing from the other party. Just see to it that you get the proper billing and invoice for the transaction so it can be considered legal.
