There are some orchids among us that are just not that popular and there are various reasons for this situation. Ghost orchids are one of those plants that you will probably never get to see or even flower because they are so rare that they can only be located in one particular area of the world. If you want to have a chance to find them in the wild you will need to have some basic information about them so that you will know them when you see them. In this article I am going to explain the basics of ghost orchids and where exactly they can be found with some luck on your side. Some Locations of where They Can Be Found One of the most important things that you will have to understand is the fact of where they can be found on this planet. There is only a select area of where they can be found and they include the swampy areas of Florida. They once were brought over from the island of Cuba, but many of them that were naturally grown within Cuba have been destroyed and it would not be a good idea to look for them there. During the mid 1900’s ghost orchids were brought over to Florida with the idea of cultivating them, but they were not the type of flower that is easy to grow and they soon began dwindling in numbers. This is a big reason that you will not see them many places. Characteristics That Will Help You Spot These Plants The next important aspect of the rare ghost orchid is actually understanding what they look like so you can easily spot them if you happen to have some luck on your side. Some people actually refer to them as frog orchids because whenever the flower does bloom in its normal habitat they look like a frogs legs. Most people will call them ghost orchids because of the white petals that they will sprout whenever they do flower. They also have one long stem that will probably be mounted on a tree since this is where they love to thrive without begin over-watered in the swampy areas. The stem will have one set of leaves and that will be it because it stores its food within the roots. That is why the roots look greener than most flowers that you plant in your home. Here you have some simple knowledge that is important for people who want to search for these plants must have. It will probably not be easy, but with some luck and determination you will see ghost orchids growing and thriving.
