Third wind turbine commissioned by Ford

The Ford plant in Dagenham has been generating electricity via two wind turbines. The turbines convert wind energy into electricity and power production in the Dagenham Diesel Centre (DDC). The two current turbines generate 5.93 million units of electricity per year, the equivalent to powering 1794 homes. A third larger and more powerful wind turbine is being installed on the Ford Dagenham estate. The new installation will double the annual CO2 saving from 2500 to 5000 tonnes per year. The third turbine will allow the electricity generated to reach 11.4 million units per year, enough to power over 3400 homes. Ecotricity is an independent green energy company whose mission is to change the source of Britain’s energy. Ecotricity and Ford first collaborated in 2004, when they created London's first wind park at Dagenham. Dale Vince OBE, founder of Ecotricity, said: "It's great to see a company like Ford taking the lead in this way, powering their modern diesel engine centre with green energy from our windmills. When big businesses like Ford use wind energy like this, it lends real credibility to the cause." Chris Wollacott, Ford Dagenham Diesel Centre line manager, said: "The Dagenham Diesel Centre assembles Ford's greenest engines, which return over 76mpg. Rising demand has prompted this additional turbine to maintain the plants own green energy source." Ford’s desire to run its plant on green energy is just one of the incentives the business is taking as a whole to become more eco friendly. Used Ford in Essex is not the only company, car manufacturers like Suzuki are taking their environmental responsibilities very seriously.
