Three Ways to Reduce Your Web Design Cost
Written by Zach Hoffman
Creating a website doesn’t have to break the bank, even if you plan to work with web design agencies. In fact, there are some things that every business owner can do themselves in order to reduce those costs. Want to reduce your own web design cost? Here are three ways to do just that.
Be an Informed Buyer
If you want to pay a higher web design cost, just call one of the web design agencies and tell them that you have no idea what you want and you want them to design your site from the bottom up. You’ll likely end up with expensive graphics, loads of pages you didn’t plan on and interactive tools that will be of no benefit to your visitors. Instead, you should create an outline of exactly what you want your website to look like. Think about what pages you want to add to your site, and what options you want your visitors to have. Don’t forget that you can always add more pages after you’re up and running in order to save on costs in the beginning.
Create Your Own Content, or at Least Some of It
A good copywriter can be expensive, and if you need content for your entire site, the overall web design cost can shoot way up. The problem is that not everyone can create content that will lead visitors to buy or take an action, and let’s face it, a website without compelling copy isn’t likely to succeed. If you’re trying to cut costs on your site and are working with web design agencies, tell them that you’ll create your own copy. You can accomplish this in a few ways.
First, if you don’t understand SEO techniques, write your content, and then hire a freelancer to SEO it. The cost will be significantly less, and you’ll ensure that the content is as you want it to be. If you understand SEO, try creating as much of the content as you can. But remember that even if you’re an old hat at content, it’s always a good idea to have a professional editor give it a once-over.
Make Changes Yourself
A website is never a static thing. There are always pages to be added or deleted, formats to be reconstructed and keywords to include. In addition, you’ll likely want to add products or services to your offerings, or take them away. But if you have to go to web design companies every time you want to make a change to your site, the web design cost will certainly go up. But if your site is based on a content management system, you’ll be able to make the changes yourself. You may have to learn a few tech skills to get the job done, but most people can quickly learn these basic skills.
Keeping web design cost projections down is important, especially when you’re just starting out. Follow the tips above when working with web design agencies, and you should see a much smaller bill than most people who are building a website.
