The old adage of “time and tide wait for none” is apt and applicable across decades and centuries. Right from the time of Noah till today, time and tide have waited for none! Just because you want your lunch break to go on, that does not mean time will stop ticking for you or fishermen would want high tide all the time, but tide does not listen to any one. It follows its own cycle immaterial of what people want.
Time and tide are symbols of things in the world which do not have consideration or tolerance for anything. They symbolize opportunity. As they say, opportunity come to you and goes. You need to grab it when it is in your hands because it will go away anytime. It is not going to wait for you to ponder, think or make a decision! One should be alert and cautious all the time because situations, emergencies or opportunities, just like time and tide come and go. No one can predict when they will come or go. There is no trend analysis that anyone can do. Especially with the advent in technology, the need to be “on your toes” increases manifold. Today we have emails, faxes, telephones etc. you cannot sit on one decision for a long time. Opportunity needs to grabbed by everyone or else it will go away! These things are beyond the control of mankind. These things and situations humble us down. It is necessary for mankind to realize that there is something supreme above him which is controlling many mysteries. Instead of questioning these things, it is best to be alert and work around them. Instead of hoping that the time spent with your girlfriend should last forever, make sure that whatever time you are spending is full of love and laughter because this is in your hands!
This self explanatory proverb is so true to all spheres of life! Make the most of today – the present. Plan for tomorrow but do not grieve for yesterday because yesterday is gone. You can make the most of today because it is in your hands. You can plan for tomorrow but uncertainties are always there. Instead of fretting about past and future, it is best to enjoy the present to the fullest. No one can predict what lies ahead or which tide will turn in favor of you or against you. What you can do is to prepare yourself for all eventualities and be happy.
Remember, no one waits for any one. You are your best friend. Grab every opportunity that comes your way, enjoy every moment gifted to you because who has seen tomorrow and there is definitely no point in grieving about your past.
