Time management tips are about efficiency, effectiveness, AND energy. Let's focus on energy today. Did you know that a powerful morning ritual can enhance your energy throughout your day?

Well, it's very true. As your day unfolds, you can draw upon the power that even a brief ritual generates. This, in turn, dramatically affects your perspective on time – and on what's possible!

Here are some ways to think about your morning ritual:

It's a promise that you make to yourself as your day begins. What gift would you like to give yourself throughout this day? Maybe you promise yourself peace, or self-confidence, or even fun! The key is to be sure you make a promise you can keep – something you will definitely follow through on. Whatever you promise, your follow-through builds self-trust and builds a sturdy bridge allowing you to apply the power and wisdom of your core self to whatever challenges your day presents to you.

It's an opportunity to indulge yourself in a good way. Your morning ritual is a daily foundation that provides you with inner peace and calm focus. This is especially important when times get rough. Think of activities that validate who you are and reinforce your values. What this looks like will vary from person to person. The common thread is that it nourishes and supports you as you move through your day.

The following sentence completion exercise will help you zero in on what you most need, and what most energizes you to start your day. This information helps you create your own, customized, morning ritual!

"The thing I find hardest thing about getting up is ________."

The transition from sleep to wakefulness is hard for some of us. When you know what's hard, you can then identify what might make it easier. Maybe waking to music eases you into your day. Or maybe a quiet cup of coffee, a morning run, yoga stretches, or meditation are helpful to you. Whatever works is worth considering for your ritual!

"My day goes better if I start out by ________."

Do you ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Your morning ritual can help you recalibrate, so that worries and negativity don't seep into the rest of your day. Try proven techniques for letting go and reorienting yourself – things like journaling, enjoying time with your animal companion, or reading something that inspires you. Remember – your ritual works best for you when it springs from your uniqueness.

"If I had a few more minutes in the morning, I'd use it to ________."

Your morning ritual is what gets you ready to greet your day. So, start your ritual with a quick scan of your horizon. Review your intentions for the coming hours. Or check your schedule and fine tune your To-Do list. Anything that helps ground and center you in the practical reality of your day is helpful. As you do this, if you find 5, 10 or 15-minutes that aren't scheduled, try adding one enriching or self-nurturing activity. Pay attention to how this makes you feel about your WHOLE day!

Mindfulness is key. There's a big difference between a ritual and a routine, and much of the time, this simply has to do with the degree of mindfulness you exercise. Routines can feel humdrum and obligatory. They may not be energizing, but they get you through. Rituals, on the other hand, send down deep roots in the here and now. These roots offer sustenance, enabling you to drink deeply from your own inner wellspring of vitality.

Validation sustains you and expands your horizons. Do you sometimes feel unseen, unheard, or unappreciated? Try establishing personal rituals that deeply validate who you are and what you do. When you fully engage in rituals your time and energy are transformed. Your choices provide more pleasure and enable you to more fully tap into your potential as you move through your day.

Pay close attention to the ways that your morning ritual enhances your day. Experiment and fine tune as you learn more and more about what you need. By devoting this level of care to yourself, you build self-trust and experience more gratitude, confidence and resilience, no matter what challenges your day may offer.
