Tips For Finding A Reputable Brass Supplier

There are many industries that would require a good relationship with a reputable brass supplier, from the welding and construction industry to the musical instrument one. If you are yet to find a suitable supplier, however, you may find that you are receiving sub-standard brass goods that have a negative impact on the overall integrity of the item you create out of the metal. Use these tips to help you find a suitable supplier and to maintain the relationship:

• Look into the business
  You need to find out what sort of staff the business employs, as these people will be ultimately responsible for putting your orders together and delivering them. Find out how long the employees have worked in the metal industry (but, more specifically, the brass one) and how long they have been with that particular supplier.

The internet also holds a wealth of information regarding a potential supplier; a quick Google search could uncover negative reviews or news articles suggesting that the supplier is less than reputable. You may also want to do a quick search on the individuals in charge of the business.

• Look at the brass
  When you have found a potential supplier, make sure that you place a few orders with them to see how they respond. You could, for example, place one order on a Monday or Tuesday and the other on a Thursday or Friday; how long does each delivery take (some suppliers are only more efficient towards the start of the week), and does the quality of the brass delivered differ from order to order (some suppliers will run out of their best quality brass by Wednesday or Thursday and will result to sub-par deposits). You don’t want a supplier who does either of these things.

• Ask for recommendations
  Chances are, if you work in the metal or brass industry, you will have contacts who also do. Why not give them a call or drop by and ask them which supplier they would (or wouldn’t) recommend. Some people may not feel comfortable sharing this information with you, however, especially if they are your competitors. If they seem reluctant to answer your questions, don’t push the subject. Most people, however, will be happy to tell you which brass suppliers to steer clear of.

Whilst the first two options are your best bet for finding a reputable brass supplier, it never hurts to ask around. Often, the people involved with the metal industry will have knowledge that everyday people (and even the internet) lack, and most are happy to share it. If ever you feel that the quality of brass your supplier provides you with has dropped, however, it is always best to move on, as they are either trying to cheat you or have changed to a cheaper (but lower quality) supplier themselves.
