After buying a leather jacket, apply ‘water and stain protector’ on it to protect it from daily stains and water spots. In case your jacket gets wet, let it dry naturally without any deliberate exposure to heat or air. After it completely dries, add a coat of leather conditioner or moisturizer on it. Remove salt deposits on your jackets with a sponge soaked in clean water. Never use caustic household chemicals to clean your leather jacket. In dry environs, regularly condition and moisturize the jacket or it will start cracking. Avoid storing your jacket in damp condition otherwise it will develop mildew on its surface.

Always hang leather jackets on wide padded hangers to maintain their shape over time. While packing them for a journey or trip, ensure that you do not fold them. After some time period, your jacket may develop cracks on its sleeves. To repair these loose edges without weakening the leather or making it extra soft, baste the edges with a small dab of rubber cement. In case the edges are just getting rough, the best option will be to use a paste of mink oil and beeswax. This paste is also available as readymade concoction. It will not only prevent stains on your leather but also will not soften the leather.

If you accidentally spill something on the jacket, remove spilled content gently with help of a brush. Then, sponge it gently with warm water and mild soap and let it dry naturally.
