Written by Sofia Jennie
Have you ever conceived of scaling Goa on a motorbike? I think it’s superb. An experience that combines your passion for riding with stupefying surroundings and a pleasant clime, it would truly be the memory you would keep cherishing unremittingly. Open roads, and eye-catching scenery of wooden foothills on one side and the views of sparkling Arabian Sea on the other, there’s nothing better than being on road when it comes to explore the beauty of Goa.
Undoubtedly, exploring unspoiled landscapes of India’s most beautiful state on a motorbike is amazing; though a little planning goes a long way. Some important factors such as what are the road/traffic like, how far could you get in a day with gentle riding and where should you relax/stay must be considered while planning your getaway. It’s always suggested to plan your motorbike trip properly and well ahead of approaching the destination.
Some Tips to Plan your Motorbike Trip:
1. Goa is small territory so nowhere is too far away. The best side to drive through in Goa is the North, where roads are spacious and well-improved, with numerous stunning sea views all around. Head on to Majrim and Madrem beach and you get to see the amazing scenery along the coast and small villages of inland Goa. You would also find a number of stopping-points nearby the Tiracol Fort. A way from Anjuna to the capital city – Panaji is another good option for bikers.
2. Learn basics of your motorcycle. You must know how to check its oil, tire pressure and how to adjust the chain. Take test drives to know its functionality and to find out how to handle it. It’s also advisable to determine how many Kms you can ride it continuously.
3. Carry an adequate tool kit. You can get it from the dealer from whom you hire the bike. Generally, a tool kit contains a small socket-wrench set, an adjustable wrench, a spark plug wrench and tire gauge and an Allen wrench set.
4. Be informed with expected temperature and dress yourself accordingly. If you plan to ride to mountains, it’s quintessential to wear a helmet and to carry some warm woolen clothes, as evening features cool temperature in hilly areas. You must keep enough of water, some dry fruits and a small first-aid kit in your travel bag. Hypothermia is a real dander during motorbike trip, and can affect your judgment on the road. So you would be better consulting your doctor before leaving for the journey.
5. Always deal with a reputable firm when hiring a motorbike, and ask properly if it has some problems. It also makes sense to ask about the recent major repairs the bike has gone through. An online research can give you a proper idea in this regard. So be a smart travelers you enjoy your Goa trip to the fullest.
