Tourist Attractions in Oman

Oman is an Arab state located on the southwest coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The country has attractive history and is full of natural beauties. Tourism is an important industry and one of the main sources of income in Oman. The most fascinating and amusing tourist attractions in Oman are as follows:

Desert Safari: Sharqiyah Sands (previously Wahiba Sands) is the most well-known desert in Oman with its sand dunes rising to almost 200 meters. And when the sun sets below the dunes, a layer of stars appears which gives a fantastic view.

Diving: Oman’s long seashore and clean water provides the facility of diving which is an exciting activity and a great source of enjoyment.

Shopping: Omani markets are full of different varieties. Oman crafts like gold, silver, masterpieces and textiles are one of their kinds. The most well-known are Muttrah Souq and Ruwi.

Caving: Oman is crowded with different sizes of caves, ruggedness and landscapes.

Kite Surfing: Due to the daily sea breeze effect, Oman proposes world class kite surfing.

Beaches: Oman is a home of some wonderful beaches such as The Qurum Beach, Marjan Beach, the Intercon Beach, Bandar Jissah, Yitii Beach, Aviation Beach and Al Sawadi Mokallah and White Beach.

Wadis: Oman is blessed with natural beauty of very beautiful wadis. These wadis are located in different regions of Oman. Wadi Daikah, Wadi Ghul, Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Bani Khalid, Wadi Al Abyadh, Wadi Dhaiqah and Wadi Shab are some very beautiful and enchanting wadis of Oman.
Frankincense Route: The luban (frankincense) route in Dhofar consists of some old cities of Shasr, Wadi Dooka, Al-Baid and Khuwr Rori which is 1,200 km from the capital city of Muscat. Many large amounts of sites for the process of manufacturing and exporting took place in Frankincense Route. The World Heritage List of 2000 includes some of the frankincense Trails.

Forts: Almost each city in Oman possesses a fort. Most of the forts were built or have been expanded betwee
1624 and 1744 during Al-Yarubi era of Oman.

Hotels: Due to huge increasing tourism in Oman, nearly all International Hotel Chains have launched their outlets there. A few of them are Golden Tulip Hospitality Group, Crown Plaza, Shangri-La, Grand Hyatt, Intercontinental, Sheraton and Ramada. Domestic Hotel Chains like Al Nahda Resort have also made a trademark for themselves.
Events: Some of the very fascinating and enjoyable events in Oman are Cultural Theatre Program, Oman International Rally, Sinbad Classic, Muscat Festival, Salalah Festival, Dubai-Muscat Offshore Sailing Race, Bidiyah Challenge and Tour of Oman.

Oman’s natural beauty, history, art, adventure and sports are the main drivers to attract the tourists. Tourism has become the largest industries in Oman due to its increasing growth and government is paying attention for its expansion in the country. Ministry of Commerce and Industry has established a tourism education college named as Tourism College Oman. This institution aims to provide young talented Omani people with the best education in the tourism and hospitality industry, thereby creating job opportunities and building careers.
