Transformational Income: What, Me Worry?
Written by Sara Dillinger
Remember Alfred E. Neuman, the iconic mascot of Mad magazine? His signature comment was well reflected in his appearance: What, me worry? It has been said that his face was the face of a person who didn’t have a care in the world, except maybe mischief.
Most of us are either not as fortunate or as clueless as Alfred E. Neuman. We each have our own catalog of cares about which we worry a great deal.
It could be said that worry is to fear as a low-grade fever is to illness. The Six Basic Fears that Napoleon Hill describes in his book, Think and Grow Rich, become translated into a state of worry through indecision.
Indecision means an unsettled mind, a mind that cannot choose between two or more options. Often the inability to choose is due to fear of not having sufficient information to make the right choice.
We do not worry over conditions, once we have reached a decision to follow a Definite line of Action.
Your business in life is, presumably, to achieve success. To be successful, you must find peace of mind, acquire the material needs of life, and above all, attain happiness.
All these evidences of Success begin in the form of thought impulses. You can control you own Mind – you have the power to feed it whatever Thought impulses you choose.
With this privilege goes also the responsibility of using it constructively. You are the master of your own earthly destiny just as surely as you have the power to control your own Thoughts. You may influence, direct, and eventually control you own environment, making you Life what you want it to be – or you may neglect to exercise the privilege which is yours, to make your life to order, and accept whatever left-overs life may toss your way. The choice is yours.
Conquer the fear of poverty by deciding to get along with whatever wealth you can accumulate without worry.
Banish the fear of criticism by deciding not to worry about what other people think or say (especially about you) or do. You can’t control what others think, only what you think.
Rather than fear ill-health and worry about sickness, decide to seek medical help for those symptoms that are real and to ignore those that are imaginary. Rather than worry about your health, do something about it: eat properly, sleep well, exercise regularly.
Master the fear of Loss of Love by admitting to yourself that the only love worth having is the love that will stand by you in good times and in bad; anything less, you can live without.
Eliminate Fear of Old Age by embracing it not as a handicap but as a blessing which carries with it wisdom, self-control and understanding.
Relieve yourself forever of the Fear of Death by deciding to accept death as an inescapable event and a prelude to a new adventure.
Don’t surrender your freedom to the habit of worry in all its forms. Decide that nothing with Life has to offer is worth the price of worry; with this decision will come poise, peace of mind, and calmness of thought which will bring happiness.
One final word about worry. Many of us have been trained from an early age to think that we are unworthy of happiness or that we don’t deserve prosperity. If you have been handicapped with this mindset, I would offer these words from one who had his full share of hardship, imprisonment, fear and anxiety and overcame them: Nelson Mandela.
“Our deepest fear is that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?”
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us: it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates
others.”
