tw telecom Business Ethernet Service offers Wholesale Customers Nationwide Reach
Wholesale tw telcom customers can now reach businesses across the nation via a single point in the provider's Carrier Ethernet backbone. tw telecom's senior VP of strategy, Mike Rouleau, explained that customers have the ability to "meet us in any of the 75 cities we serve and we'll take them to the other 74 and any of our 16,000 fiber-lit buildings."
In addition to increasing its number of fiber-connected buildings last year, Rouleau said that tw telecom has utilized Ethernet over Copper (EoC) equipment to expand Business Ethernet to locations that have special access connections, DS3 or Internet T1. Moreover, the provider also established nearly 100 External Network-to-Network Interconnection connections to its Ethernet platform to facilitate access to a larger number of locations by way of additional carriers.
Rouleau noted that this offering is one-of-a-kind, because unlike its competition, the provider has not made many acquisitions in recent years; and when it did, tw telecom fully integrated the networks into its national network. Larissa Herda, tw telecom's President, CEO and Chairman was the one to put the full integration strategy in place, and Rouleau was quick to point out that "it's working well for us". As a result, the provider's wholesale customers gain the advantage of only needing to establish one Point-of-Presence in the U.S., as opposed to building one in each city they wish to serve, which Rouleau says is standard with the majority of other carriers.
The demand for Business Ethernet service continues to grow as companies learn they can purchase more bandwidth for a lower cost per bit in order to support their higher speed metro, regional, nationwide and global network applications. Furthermore, tw telecom Business Ethernet customers receive the benefit of 5 classes of service (CoS) – which Rouleau stated will significantly simplify wholesaler’s network management tasks.
