Do you have a child who is hyperactive, or unable to focus? Does he or she become bored doing a task for even a few minutes? I daydreaming a problem? Do they talk non-stop and have trouble sitting in their seats without squirming? They might have ADHD, Attention Deficit Disorder. The statistics on ADHD is staggering:
  • As of 2006, more tha 4.5 million children in elementary schools have been diagnosed with ADHD and the number is increasing by 3% every year.
  • Betwee 8-10% of elementary school children are taking either Ritalin or some form of anti-depressant.
Parents place their children on these medications because they feel there is no other option, but there are serious side effects to Ritalin, and they include: Sleeping difficultyr Irritability Depression Anxiety Blood Glucose changes Increased blood pressurer Tics Stunted growthr Psychosis or paranoia Children tend to feel very uncomfortable on these medications and very often they don’t even help the main issues. There are some basic protocols to follow when trying to work with hyperactive children. Some foods may produce allergic behavioral changes. The main foods to eliminate are:
  • Milk, eggs, peanuts, seafood, soy and wheat.
  • Avoid all sugar, chemicals and especially food coloring.
  • Diet should be mainly proteins, vegetables and fruits (assuming there are no allergies), and some complex carbohydrates (excluding wheat and possibly gluten).
Essential fatty acids have shown notable improvements after three months of daily use. The best fatty acids are the fish oils due to their DHA content. DHA is found in mother’s breast milk, but not in cows milk. (This is a good reason to make sure your children are breast fed.)For more sound dietary information, visit my website at: http://www.healthy-diet-plan-review.com New Hope for Treating ADHD with Brain Based Therapy Treating ADD is a multi-faceted approach. Follow the dietary approach, and then bring in your child to be neurologically evaluated for our specialized Brain Based Therapy. I take a different approach to the treatment of ADHD. After a thorough neurological examinatio I determine which part of the nervous system is not functioning properly. There are three parts to the brain stem: top, middle, and lower. The mesencephalon is the top part of the brain stem. A high output of the mesencephalon will cause an increased activity level of the body, and inability to sleep. The patient may also have a decreased output of the cerebellum as well, and there may also be an imbalance of the right and left hemispheres of the brain. It is imperative to create balance between all parts of the brain in order to help restore the body to it’s normal functioning. Treatment consists of gentle stimulation of nerves in order to restore balance to all parts of the brain. This is followed by a precise protocol of rehabilitative exercises that are done in the office under my guidance and and instruction, and then followed up at home.
