Understanding Kidney Failure and Its Causes
Written by Rohan Sinha
Chronic Kidney Failure or End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is a condition wherein kidneys stop functioning. In other words, in ESRD, kidneys lose their ability to filter waste from the blood and then, convert it into urine. The waste builds up in the system until dialysis or kidney transplant becomes the only solution left. Dialysis is the process which does the same work as a kidney will do; however, dialysis is an expensive and time-consuming process. So, kidney transplant becomes the only viable option for the patient suffering from end stage renal disease for a longer and healthier life.
Diabetes
Uncontrolled diabetes is one of the main causes for kidney failure. Over years, the high levels of glucose in the body destroy the kidney’s ability to filter toxins and waste from the blood. That’s the time transplant or dialysis becomes the one and only option.
High Blood Pressure
High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is another major cause of kidney failure. When blood pressure goes up, kidneys try to compensate for that. Scar tissue accumulates over a period of time and results into huge damage to the kidneys’ ability to filter blood.
Chronic Kidney Infections
Chronic infections result into scarring of the kidneys; the more frequent and severe the infections are, the more are the chances for kidney failure.
The patient suffering from end stage renal disease (ESRD) should look for a reputed kidney transplant hospital. Well, there are many in India, and thus, it shouldn’t take you long before you find the most-appropriate hospital for your treatment. Just search online, talk to 3 or 4 different hospitals and then, go with the one which makes you feel more comfortable and which has done similar surgeries in the past with a sound success rate. With recent surgical advancements like minimally invasive surgery, patients are getting more out of surgeries than ever before.
Though kidney transplant has its own set of challenges, but the patient does feel a lot healthier after the transplant. So, the patient and his/her loved-ones should look for a reputed kidney transplant hospital only so as to ensure the best out of the surgery.
A few minutes of search through net will help you come across the leading hospitals in your city; and, you’ll eventually find the best kidney transplant hospital. Cost is also something that you shouldn’t forget; check whether or not your insurance cover the cost of the surgery.
