A wise man once said that where the purpose of a thing is not properly defined, abuse is inevitable. God created man with a specific purpose in mind. It is therefore our responsibility to understand this purpose, so as to maximise our short stay here on Earth.
From the creation story it is quite clear that everything that God did was deliberate. There was a purpose in bringing forth light from the darkness, creating night and day before separating the waters from dry land. There was a purpose for creating the foliage before creating animals and so on (Gen 1:1-25).
The creation process described above was by no means a random event. It was a well thought out calculated exercise, executed by a complex and intelligent Being. The pattern was such that everything that was created had a distinct function and was designed to sustain what would come next.
And so it was that when Man was created on the 6th day, everything he needed to live a physically comfortable life was available.
Now when God created the beasts of the air, land and sea, He spoke a blessing over them (Gen 1:22). This spoken word was a spiritual empowerment, enabling the receiver accomplish that which had been spoken to it. Without this word of blessing, every creature will need the the direct involvement of God to function.
It is very important we understand this because, we will appreciate more the first words which were spoken to Man i.e. you and I.
Gen 1:2 puts it this way: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it . And have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (KJV).
God had created Man and put him in an environment that could sustain him. Then He blessed him, not only empowering him to care of the system and ensure it did not die, but also to have authority over it. We all, male and female, have been empowered to be fruitful, to multiply, to increase and to subdue the earth and dominate it.
Therefore we can conclude that our purpose can be found in our understanding of our unlimited potential (fruitfulness, increase, growth) and in our willingness to take responsibility (subdue and dominate).
I recently watched a movie where the lead character was misdiagnosed with a rare life threatening disease and was given a few weeks to live. Thinking she had only three weeks to live, she was able to step out of her comfort zone, actualize her dreams and impact the lives of those around her positively.

So to fulfil our purpose we must therefore :
1. EXPLORE AND MAXIMISE POTENTIAL
i) Engage in Spiritual Development
ii) Invest in Personal Development
2. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
i. Don’t make excuses
ii. Avoid procrastination
iii. Set Goals! Make plans to achieve them !!Act on them!!!
