Use OneNote 2010s Best New Features

OneNote is a very useful note-taking and collaboration tool but previous versions required all participants have the software installed on their PCs. The latest edition of OneNote 2010 (part of Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student), now offers some excellent new web features that let you access your saved OneNote data on any computer.

Go to File and select New to create a new notebook. You'll be given a choice of three locations and, if you choose the web, the notebook will be stored on Windows Live SkyDrive, which comes free with a Hotmail email account. With your SkyDrive folders displayed, you can choose to store your data in a private folder that only you can access or a public one that's available to anyone.

You can now see the notebook on any computer with internet access - you don't need to have OneNote Installed. It doesn't even need to be a Windows PC - it could be an Apple Mac or even run Linux, Just go to http://skydrive,live-com to see your document listed along with any other files you have stored online. Select it to view and edit it within your browser, This OneNote web app doesn't have as many features as the Desktop version, but it's invaluable for providing access on any computer.
Work online or offline

There's no Save button or menu option in OneNote. Instead, when you store a notebook online in your SkyDrive storage space, you have the Choice of automatic or manual syncing. OneNote defaults to auto-syncing whenever you make a change, but you can work in offline mode and sync the changes only when it suits you. Click the File menu. On the right is a thumbnail of the current notebook. Below that is a View Sync Status button. Click it and you can choose to work in offline mode. Now your changes will only be saved when you click the Sync button.
Take screen clippings

OneNote runs in the background and is always available when you need it. This means that if you want to take a picture of the screen - either all or part of it - you just need to press the Windows key and S together. Use the cursor that appears to drag a box around the part of the screen you want to copy.
