Water - The Ultimate Medicine
Written by John Conrad
We all catch a cold and/or cough from time to time. Children are known to catch up to 10 colds a year - while adults average up to five.
A fever, runny nose, sore throat, etc. are all well-known symptoms of the common cold (influenza), a condition for which doctors and pharmaceutical companies have still not made a miracle remedy discovery. If truth be told, the over-the-counter drugs available from pharmacies, merely battle the symptoms, and not the cause of this common ailment. The fact of the matter is that little can actually be done once a cold or flu virus sets in, except to eliminate them.
The best way to fight a cold is simply to prevent it (My mother always told me that the best defence is good offense). There are numerous ways to prevent the flu and colds - including washing hands often, taking vitamins and avoiding people who has the flu. But perhaps the most important and simplest form of prevention of the common cold is sometimes also the most unnoticed – sufficient WATER intake.
Water flushes harmful impurities and toxins from our bodies, and aid in the production of mucus. Since the body uses even more fluid than usual when battling off a cold, the body can be left severely dehydrated without it. Dehydration, among many things, can result in high fever. This is the reason why extra water/fluids should be ingested when suffering cold symptoms. In effect - the absence of water can make the cold and/or cough worse.
In the way of coughs, drinking the appropriate amount of water will keep the mucus lining in the lung area thin and lubricated, making it easier to have a “productive” cough. Water will also help loosen phlegm, and alleviate an irritated throat.
Not only can water help avoid a cold, but it can also help sufferers feel better. Nevertheless, people should only drink clean water when they are sick because water that is contaminated can add even more toxins to our bodies. Through drinking plenty of clean water, we can boost our immune systems which will allow us to stay healthy and enjoy the wonders of the winter season.
