In April 2017, the government established an interdisciplinary committee to evaluate the potential drafting of regulations covering virtual currencies. The Committee is made up of many government agencies such as the RBI, the Department of Financial Services and the Ministry of Revenue. Back in October 2017, the Indian Supreme Court issued a note to the RBI and other associated agencies requesting them to provide an answer to the request filed on the cryptocurrency regulation subject. The first petition expressed hesitation about the feasible usage of Bitcoin In India along with other digital currencies in untraceable cross-border trades, making them as attractive tools for cybercriminals and tax evaders. Part of the petition read: “The lack of concrete mechanism delaying the regulatory structure has left a lot of void and which has resulted in total unregulated and unaccountability Bitcoin trading and transactions.” In spite of the rising appetite for crypto-currencies in the nation, regulators still haven’t determined how to control Bitcoin In India along with other digital currencies. Until then, Bitcoin won’t be thought of as a legal tender in India.
