Ajmer is one of the main cities of Rajasthan. This place is situated on the banks of River Banas and Luna. This city was founded by the Rajput leader Ajaipal Chauhan. It is a well-liked pilgrimage for Muslim as well as for Hindus also. Ajmer is the base for visiting Pushkar which is a holy place for the Hindus. Ajmer is a sole place and it has the Dargah or the tomb of the 13th century Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. This Dargah has equal importance foe Hindus as well as for Muslim. There are many tourists’ places in Ajmer. Some of the important tourist places are:
1. Dargah of Khawaja Saheb: it is situated at the base of a barren hill. This holy place is just next to Mecca and Madina. It is said that Akbar once in a year use to make a pilgrimage in the Dargah from Agra. In the second courtyard, there is the saint’s tomb with superb marble dome.
2. Nasiyan Temple: it is a Jain temple which was built in 1865 and it is red in color. There is wooden gilt in the double storied hall which tells us the story of Jain concepts and it also exhibits the images from the Jain mythology.
3. Ana Sagar Lake: Ajmer is also holy with this good-looking lake which is made by damming the river Luni. This lake was built in 1135-1150 AD. This lake is bounded by the hills and there are beautiful parks on the back of the lake.
4. Taragarh Fort: this fort was built during the scarcity relief program and it offers a charming view of the surrounds to the visitors.
5. Government Museum: here in this museum you will see the rich compilation of Mughal and Rajput armory. This museum displays the well and delicate sculptures of the region that too from 8th century AD. It include old arms, miniature paintings, very old rock inscriptions and also stone sculptures.
6. Puskar Fair: this fair is very well-known and it is held once in a year. Tourists can make excursion from Ajmer to its adjacent town to Pushkar.
Ajmer is located in the middle of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Government and private buses are obtainable from the major cities to Ajmer. Train connectivity is also good and it is well connected to the major cities of India. Adjacent airport is at Jaipur which is at a distance of 135 kms from Ajmer.
