Benadryl is a medicine that belong to an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever and the common cold. These symptoms include rash, itching, watery eyes, itchy eyes/nose/throat, cough, runny nose and sneezing. This medicine is also recommended for treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Benadryl is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat mild forms of Parkinson's disease. It can be used for other purpose as directed by the doctor or health care professional.

This medication works by blocking a certain natural substance which is called as histamine, that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Its drying effects on such symptoms as watery eyes and runny nose are caused by blocking another natural substance made by your body (acetylcholine).

Benadryl is an over the counter medicine that does not require any prescription. Benadryl is used for various allergies like cough, blocked or runny nose, skin rash, itching, sneezing. It works as an antihistamine. It interferes with histamine effects at histamine1-receptor sites. Diphenhydramine HCl 25 mg is the main ingredient of this medicine. Before taking this medicine you should know full information about the medicine to avoid any serious side effect. Precautions needs to be taken are as follows:-

1) Alcoholic drinks should be avoided while taking Benadryl medicine.
2) Benadryl causes sleepiness, hence people taking this medicine should avoid using dangerous machinery and other hazardous activities.
3) In elderly people it may cause low blood pressure. Hence care should be taken while use in them.
4) It may cause excitability especially in children or the elderly.
5) It should be kept out of reach of children.

It is important to note that if you are pregnant or breastfeeding mother you should consult your doctor before taking benadryl medicine. As use of this medicine may harm the health of unbo
baby or nursed child. Before taking this medicine you should inform your doctor if you are suffering from glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye, a stomach ulcer, an enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating, an overactive thyroid, hypertension or any type of heart problems and asthma to avoid any side effect.

Before taking benadryl medicine you should inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription, non prescription and herbal medicine to avoid any serious drug interaction. Do not use benadryl medicine in combination with MAO inhibitors, Sedative/hypnotics and Tranquilizers medicine as it may cause drug interaction.

You should take this medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Take this medicine with a full glass of water with or without food. Try to take the medicine at the same time each day. Take the medicine half an hour prior to bed time. Do not increase or decrease the dose of the medicine on your own. Keep all medicines away from the reach of the children and pet.
