What Causes Acne Breakouts (It's Not Just Due To Stress Or Dietary Habits)
Written by Marie Sanchez
Most people do not realize there are more reasons behind their acne breakouts than simply what they are eating, or a result of their undue stress. In fact, there are a number of things that can sabotage clear, beautiful skin. Some you would never think of.
In this article, we will discuss five of them that you may or may not be aware of.
1. Medications
A number of medications may produce an acne breakout. Some include hydrocortisone, cortisone, certain types of iodine, lithium, or prednisone - which is used to treat various inflammatory conditions such as allergies, arthritis, poison ivy, etc.
Prior to taking any medications, carefully read the label or check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure.
2. Fitness Gear
An acne breakout may result if the exercise you're performing requires the use of a particular type of gear.
For example, people who do yoga use an exercise mat and should remember to place a towel down - especially if it is a shared mat. The reason is because your body will mingle with other individuals' sweat and germs. If someone has athlete's foot or some other type of bodily infection, it's likely you will contract it.
Therefore, a clean mat is a healthy mat.
3. Cell Phone Or Handset Phone
Your cell phone or handset collects a plethora of bacteria and dirt all day long. This may be the culprit for mouth and chin blemishes.
Stave off the transference of harmful bacteria onto your face by cleaning your cell phone or handset every day with either alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or Clorox disinfectant wipes.
4. Using Your Bare Hands To Constantly Touch Your Face
Ideally, you should never touch your face using your bare hands - even after you have just washed them.
This is because making contact and touching your skin consistently can cause inflammation. You may cause your skin to produce more oil if you continue to touch the same areas. Therefore, a combination of bacteria, inflammation, and oil production may produce an acne breakout.
Together, these create the perfect storm for bad skin!
5. Makeup Applications
After the constant use of applying makeup with brushes, sponges, and other applicators, they begin to collect soiled skin residue over time. You are reapplying harmful bacteria and yeast each time you use your makeup applicators since they are undoubtedly infected. This could cause numerous acne breakouts on your face.
