Internet protocol refers to a network layer protocol that helps in communication of data over a packet switched network. The term packet here means sending and receiving of data in the form of packet between two nodes in a network. Almost all the networks have Internet Protocol with Transmission Control Protocol which creates a virtual connection between the receiver and the sender. Over the course of time the Internet Protocol has seen major transformation and soon we are going to see some major changes in it. China in this regard has been working hard to develop IPv 6 based network to counter the growing shortage of IP addresses.

China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation has designed the deployment plan which is meant to ease the transition from the present IPv4 to IPv6 network. This will help improve the IPv6 application of China. Like every other thing China is going to be the first country to implement IPv6. So what does this means for the world? All the computers, electronic devices, mobiles that uses internet also need Internet Protocol to identify themselves and exchange information with each other and the integration of IPv6 Chinese technology will increase the speed at which various internet based devices establish communication within a network.

But why is this that only China has taken the initiative to build the world’s largest IPv6 network. Well the explosion of the internet, including intelligent devices, mobiles and wearables has made it quite difficult to keep the supply swift. China has a very large customer base which uses Internet and looking at the current IPv4 addresses the urgency of China can be justified.

Why China Has Come Up With Internet Protocol version 6:

• The current address space permitted by IPv4 is saturating very rapidly due to exponential growth of the internet. There was a need for having a new Internet Protocol version that can satisfy the requirement of future Internet addresses.
• IPv4 also doesn’t have a way to configure a device to have unique Internet Protocol address on a global scale.
• The major disadvantage of Internet Protocol version 4 is that it lacks security features. So the data which is sent over through IPv4 has to be encrypted with other security application prior being sent on the Internet.
• IPv4 does not provide much functionality because the data prioritization in it is not up to date.

China has some of the biggest mobile user base in the world. The China mobile has close to 900 million mobile subscribers. So to be able to provide new IP addresses to each subscribers device has what made China to come up with IPv6.

What are the benefits of IPv6?

• No more Network Address Translation required.
• The multicast routing will be way better.
• The header format will be even simpler.
• There will be no private address collisions.
• The routing will be more efficient and simplified.
• Enhanced privacy support and built-in authentication.
• There will be hassle free administration which means no need of DHCP.
• Now there will be flexible extensions and alternatives.
• The flow labeling will be better.
• It has auto configuration feature.
