An innocent question you may think but for many psychics, this can be a difficult question to answer. This could be because being psychic varies from person to person; what one medium or psychic feels, is unlike anything another person would feel. But, if we were to generalise the experience on such gifted people, it would possibly look and feel something like this…
A born gift
Like someone who is born with an innate gift, it can be difficult to imagine what life would be like NOT being gifted with a psychic ability. Just like an artist born with the inner talent to create stunning art work, they may also be tutored to bring out various aspects of their work and talent, honing a skill. This is what is it like to be psychic; just like an artist would probably shrug their shoulders if you ask them, what is it like being an artist, it is hard to imagine not being one or not having the ‘gift’.

Is it something people have to try with or is it there all the time?
Many people assume that being a gifted in this way, is something that is always switched on. That it just happens, all the time. They think that a psychic or medium will see everything coming but in all honesty, it is not quite like this.
A big part of what is it like to be psychic is the ability to switch the gift ‘off’ to a certain extent or at least control it. After all, we don’t walk around with music and chatter constantly in our ears; this would soon stop being pleasurable and start to be a nuisance!
Also, depending on the gifts they were given, some people have to work and train some aspects of their skill set, whilst other skills are there, all the time. It is hard work being psychic – more so keeping it in control, and not letting it consume your every waking moment.

How gifted people sense things
Some of us have 5 senses, all working with a varying degree of success – we can taste things when it tastes nasty or ‘off’; we can hear bitter arguments; we can say horrible things; we do not like the feel of some things and we can smell something odd or bad. We wrinkle our noses, spit out the food, and close ourselves to the horrible things in life.
Having a sixth sense – the ability to feel intuitively when something is not right or the path we are on is wrong – is an undeveloped psychic ability. Sometimes we listen to this gut reaction and sometimes, usually to our cost, we don’t.
This is what is it like to be psychic – messages come through the senses, often with the addition of an emotion from the spirit making contact with the message for the earthly body. Many people think that clear messages and pictures are received, much like an email with an attachment but this is not the case! These messages need decoding and deciphering, this is what is it like to be psychic.
As living beings, we also aid a medium in our search for messages from loved ones on the ‘other side’. We are either open – enlightened – to the concept that is something beyond the realm of our own understanding or we are closed; this dimness of lights can make connecting with the other side difficult; messages are not heard or read clearly, they are patchily received.
Overall, being connected and part of something vast, beyond all comprehension that we have in this earthly life is what is it like to be psychic. Some people use their gifts to help others, enriching lives and empowering others. Some people use their gift for their own purpose, choosing not to develop it in the same way. Either way, having this kind of gift and talent is extraordinary.
