Have you ever first hand lived in an area where you are under constant alert of attack? Have you ever been in the lines of battle grateful that you just made it through another day? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to have to leave your home and everything you have on a moment’s notice in order to stay alive?

Fortunately, many of us have not been through the experience of living in a warzone. Most of us come and go from our homes each and every day without a thought about being forced out without anything. We take often times for granted that we are safe and will be undisturbed within the four walls of where we rest and live a good portion of our lives.

What I find interesting about warzones is that there are so many lessons that can be learned from that lifestyle. Now, I don’t condone war; nor do I find it to be a solution to things. However, there is no doubt that one’s senses are prone to be in overdrive, and that there is an aspect of having to think on one’s feet on a moment’s notice.

It brings home some very real things that make us realize the value of life and the importance of living each day in it’s fullest. It reminds us of how fragile life can be; and how easily it can be taken. It reminds us that peacefulness and safety is not what all people are living in today.

While we would like to put war as a thing of the past, recent times show that it is as alive and active as ever. We are constantly reminded of the violence that is happening in various areas of the world. It reminds us of the lengths people are willing to go to in order to have a sense of control, power, or to protect their possessions.

Robert Obol is one person who has lived this first hand. He had not only his own self to care for in this process but had an entire parish to be concerned for. He knows what it is like to drive through lands where bullets are flying, and to have a gun placed to his head, and to live day after day having his villages rampaged and seized.

His life stories bring many lessons; not just about living in a warzone, but parallels to everyday life. For many just being out in the world, or their work environment is like being in a warzone. It brings home the fundamental values of learning to not get too attached to things, enjoying the moment, live in the day yet be flexible to change your plans as needed.

What warzones have you been through in your life? How would you feel not being able to sleep through the night for fear of having your home barged into? How have you dealt with those times where you felt constantly under attack by people and/or situations in your life?
