What is the definition of an Enlightened Person? How do they handle situations?
Written by Dada Bhagwan
An enlightened person is one who has attained Self-Realization and is on the path of liberation, but they still have miles to go. They remain in the shelter of the Enlightened One, and learn to walk step-by-step and progress on the path of salvation. However, it is more important to know how is an Enlightened being i.e. a Gnani Purush.
Being liberated, He is the liberator and the beacon light, who is living life to lift and liberate others!!
Gnani is one who is always in a state of Samadhi as he dwells in the pure Self (the Soul)!! He is a person whose needs and desires have dissolved. Gnani is the Enlightened One who has no worldly desires, has no false pride; He is not allured by any materialistic thing in this world. Neither riches nor the objects that lure the five senses, neither veneration nor any kind of self-worship or self-pride enchant Gnani.
If one comes to this Gnani, the Enlightened One, in perfect humility and with a spirit of ‘I know nothing’, one is sure to be lifted and liberated on the path of salvation. Even once, if without any reservation, one surrenders all his ego in the lotus feet of the Gnani, he undoubtledly gets onto the path of liberation!! How do they handle situations?
They handle all situations with equanimity. Inspite of being fully into the situation, they are fully out of it as they are detached from whatever is happening around them.
In every situation, they deftly put into practical use the spiritual principles (siddhant).
They solve all situations-in-hand by remaining in the realm of the Aagnas (the spiritual directives) given to them by the Enlightened One, through whose grace they’ve got enlightened and they’ve reached this stage where they are. They remain fully conscious of these Aagnas in every situation.
In any situation, they experience no internal difficulty whatsoever. No matter how dire the situation is, internally they are always calm and poised, and they successfully bring calmness and happiness in those around as well, making the atmosphere light and warm. And they arrive at best solutions spontaneously.
Through the spiritual art of separation between the Real and the relative, they stand strong no matter what the external circumstances may be, and they remain unaffected by any insults or wounds, if any, given to them by any person. They don’t have any ego; therefore in any situation ‘their ego getting hurt’ is just out of question. However, they take more than due care that no one’s ego gets hurt by them. And in a particular situation, in case they sense that someone’s ego is hurt, they go out of the way and through their special ways, win over the other person. They do not take any chance that could pose a risk on their path of liberation.
They never allow their intellect to obstruct, overrule or hinder their spiritual endeavour!!!
In any situation, the entire world appears flawless to them for they know the reality. No matter what the situation is, no one’s mind distances from them. When someone abuses them for no fault of theirs, in such a situation too, they would never waste their time and energy either in retaliating nor in arguing or defending themselves. It is because they are always aware that Soul is the real Self; hence they are never bothered about their worldly self, which they know is anyways in the control of destiny.
While handling any situation, their resolute keenness for spirituality on one hand and their remarkable sincerity and honesty on the other, and also their absolute humility and a goal-driven personality is pretty obvious and convincing enough to lure people to follow them and be one like them one day. Their purity in every matter, be it money, sexuality or egoistic pride, attracts everyone and keeps them in bliss.
There is only one tool to acquire the knowledge of the Self and that tool is the Gnani Purushr
Only a lit candle can light another candle. Being liberated, Gnani Purush is the liberator, the saviour, and the beacon light – living to lift and liberate others. They have only one objective, that of our salvation. When we take refuge in them whole-heartedly, they carry us safely across the ocean of worldly existence. It is for this reason that they manifest in this world!!
So, let us make a firm determination to meet an enlightened person soon, and seeing Him, walk on the path of becoming one like him. Wishing you a happy journey on the path of enlightenment in the shelter of the Enlightened One...

Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.

As a result, his relationships are ruined and he always lives in misery.rn rnSo,

What is the importance of Living Guru?
Questioner: If we surrender to the great souls that lived thousands of years ago, can that be considered surrender? Can we make any progress through such surrender or do we need to surrender to a living great man? Dadashri: You can progress even through Paroksha (indirectly- one not currently living).
