The meaning of pure Soul is that the Soul is indeed pure; it is indeed the Absolute Self (the ‘I’)
The Enlightened One (Gnani) explains:
The Soul is in its pure state throughout, in every time period, be it past, present and future
But because of the layers of coverings, its reality is obstructed from coming into one’s vision. Once the vision is purified, impurity cannot take place. Nevertheless, the real Soul, our real Self has always maintained its state of detachment and purity throughout these changes.
Even now, your Soul is pure. Everyone’s Soul is pure, but because the external form (phase) has come about, it is in that form that your wrong belief has arisen.
What is ‘I’?
I means it is your existence. Suppose there is gold in its pure form. And when this gold is mixed with some copper, etc. the external form of bangle or earring comes into being. Here, the phase of gold has changed.
So there are three words (that need to be understood) here:
‘matter’ of gold,
‘properties’ of gold,
‘phases’ of the gold.
If gold would be alive, meaning if it would have knowledge, then it would say, “I am bangle, I am bangle, I am bangle.” And the goldsmith would explain, “You are not bangle, you are pure gold.” Likewise, John (please insert your name here) is a phase. And you believe, “I am John. I am unmarried. Then after some time, you say, I have done marriage. She is my wife. I am John, her husband. He’s my child. I am John, his father.” Thus, your phases keep changing.
But really, when you come to Gnani, he will explain, “You are not John. You are pure Soul. These are phases only.” You say, “I became mad at my children.” Again, Gnani will explain, “You (pure Soul) are not mad at your children. John got mad at his children. Pure Soul remains pure all the time”, like when the gold’s existence is believing that, “I am green, I am bangle”, then the goldsmith says, “You are not bangle. Bangle is your phase, you are pure gold (yellow in colour).”
The matter of gold remains constant, the properties of gold remain constant, only phases of the gold get changed. Why? Due to the other element.” So, with respect to other elements (copper, etc.), phases are changing. Similarly, here also, John is only one. When your wife comes, you say, “I am husband.” When children come, you say, “I am father.” When your parents come, you say, “I am son.” With respect to other evidence, your belief changes, but the properties and the matter do not change.
Due to wrong belief, the phases change. So here, by giving Self-Realization, within two hours, we are changing your wrong belief to the right belief that, ‘John is separate, all this relative is temporary. And You are really the pure Soul, the real is permanent.’
We are giving this real knowledge to you (Self-Realization)
You believe, “I am John, I am father, I am brother, I am son.” Now, we are giving you real knowledge (when Gnani, with his divine powers, graces us with Self-Realization), “You are pure Soul. You are infinite knowledge. You are infinite bliss. You are permanent. You are immortal.” Thus, your belief gets changed.”
Prior to Self-Realization, you have wrong beliefs. Due to this wrong belief, you have charged atoms. These atoms are called karma. In past life, you had wrong beliefs. Due to that wrong belief, you charged so many karmas. Due to these charged karma, in this life, when the time is right, the charged karma gets discharged one after another (like a charged battery discharges). From birth to death, it is all discharge karma now.
After Self-Realization, you have the right belief. So you are not going to charge any new karma now.
The matter of Soul has remained pure all the time. The properties of Soul i.e. knowledge, vision, energy, bliss also remain permanent and pure. Only, the belief has changed. Now you are changing that wrong belief to the right belief (during Self-Realization).
Due to the purity of matter and properties of the Soul, you can instantly experience the Pure Soul
(When Gnani graces us with Self-Realization, in just an hour’s time, we are able to experience the pure Soul) because the other element was always separate from you. You were just believing them to be one (like an imaginary illusion). It is like, with the train, what happens?... When the neighbouring train on another track moves, you feel, “Oh! Our train has started.” But really your train is on the platform only. The neighbouring train moved, but due to an imaginary illusion, you feel, “Our train has moved.” Very similarly, John and you (pure Soul) are so much near and near that whatever happens to John, you feel, ‘I am suffering. I am feeling. I am involved in that.”
You are really a Pure Soul. John is a representative of all matter (i.e. the body-complex that has come into being, just like the bangle or earring comes into being from pure gold). So now we (Gnani, the Enlightened One) separated John and you (pure Soul). Whatever mistake was done by you while in the wrong belief (of I am John), you have to repay for that. You have to resolve those mistakes now with the awareness that, ‘I am a Pure Soul. I am a Knower and Seer only.’
When we attain Self-Realization, the attentive awareness of the pure Soul establishes within!
When the Gnani Purush gives you Self-Realization, how does he give it? He places a line of demarcation between illusory knowledge and the Knowledge of the Soul; between the knowledge of the non-Self (I am John) and knowledge of the Self (I am a Pure Soul). Thereafter, there is no likelihood of the mistake ever occurring again. And the Soul will continue to remain in one’s awareness. Not even for a moment will that awareness disappear.
When we attain Self-Realization, we realize that I am neither the mind, nor the intellect, am not impure consciousness, nor am I ego, neither am I anger, pride, deceit, greed, attachment or hatred, nor am I the body or the five senses, I am the eternal blissful pure Soul. This is the ultimate truth.
A goldsmith does not get upset with you even if you were to take to him an item of impure gold content. All he looks at is the gold itself. People have a habit of getting angry, but not the goldsmith, as he simply sees the pure gold within. The Gnani, just like the goldsmith, looks at the Self (the pure Soul) only, He does not look at the external qualities of the relative self (John). The phases of gold changes, from impure, to a powder, to a liquid, to pure again, but the gold remains gold (pure gold). Just as the focus of the goldsmith remains only on gold, if your focus were to remain only on the Self (pure Soul) within everyone, your work will be done. And we owe this solely to Gnani, without whom, this does not become possible! Thus,
To Him (Gnani) we bow in eternal reverence, Who kindled in us Pure Light (of the pure Soul);
Every Soul is a temple now, where the bells chime, Jai Satchitanand!!!

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
