‘Brahma’ means ‘Soul’ and ‘charya’ means ‘to dwell in’. Hence, the real concept of brahmacharya is ‘to constantly dwell in the Soul’

The Soul is the real Self of every living being. However, since it is not to be seen, the ignorance of this Self continues to prevail within, until one attains Self-Realization.

Self-Realization happens when, in a 48 minutes process:
●the deluding karmas that obscure the vision of the Soul are destroyed, and
●the awareness that the Self is separate from the body is established.

After this process, the conviction that indeed ‘I am a Pure Soul’, remains constant. And then, delving deeper with the right knowledge of ‘who am l’ and ‘who is the doer’, one perseveres to maintain more and more awareness of the Soul and thus practice brahmacharya.

The Enlightened One Plays the Key Role!!!
None of the above becomes possible without the grace of the Enlightened One!!! We are unable to take the very first step and even the next baby-steps on the path of salvation (moksha), without the presence of the Enlightened One. He is the torchbearer who leads and inspires the world in working towards the valued goal of brahmacharya.

The Enlightened One, therefore, takes the prime position in the life of one who wishes to progress on the path of brahmacharya. And in turn, the feeling of gratitude and love that one naturally develops towards the Enlightened One, for His constant grace and guidance that has made his progress possible, proves to become the important factor in one’s progress in this direction.

What One gains in the Worldly Life on the Path of Brahmacharya. Let us take a look at some of the profound worldly benefits too that those derive who advance in the practice of brahmacharya:
●They gradually desist from participation or encouragement in sexuality through the medium of the mind, speech or body.
●Their ability to focus and their concentration power immensely improves.
●They understand and grasp subtle aspects of life far more quickly.
●Their mind is in good control i.e. it does not go against their wishes.
●They remain healthy as the immunity system of their body increases.
●Regardless of difficulties in life, they have the ability to keep calm and be steady.
●They have the strength to handle the problems that come their way.
●In their current life, they positively benefit mentally, physically and intellectually.
●Their future life too is immensely improved.
●Through celibacy, they experience purity from within.

And what are the implications in the life of those who harness sexual desires:
●The power and the strength of the body, mind and speech slowly decline.
●Sex and money are the biggest cause of conflicts and unrest in worldly life and are the greatest barriers in spiritual life.
Sexuality is born out of attraction and from that, repulsion occurs. When repulsion arises, it gives rise to clashes that could become a cause for revenge too in the next life. Therefore, sex is said to be a cause of vengeance.
●Millions of microorganisms are killed during a single sexual interaction. These living beings surely take revenge. This is Nature’s law.
●Sexual interaction is prone to give rise to quite a few diseases in the body.
●There is a significant weakness experienced after sexual activity.
●We all are born with a finite count of breaths to be taken in this life. A far greater amount of breaths get used up, when in sexual activity, even more than that in getting angry, facing fear, in pursuit of feeding greed or through the actions of deceit. Thus, one is greatly reducing their lifespan.
●Sex takes one to a lower life form in the next birth.

Now that we have good insight into the theory of brahmacharya and understand the advantages of adhering to real brahmacharya from the perspective of spirituality as well as worldly life, we begin to appreciate that brahmacharya is a critically useful practice in life.
There is no end to bliss in the experience of the Soul. For those who understand this, brahmacharya is the way to go.... Hence, let us pray to God that ‘may I soon meet the Enlightened One and holding His hand, learn to practice brahmacharya as soon as I can.’

A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
