A disorder that should not be ignored, connective tissue disease or collagen vascular disease should be treated immediately to avoid further problems that might result from this condition. These are some guidelines on what you should do if you are suffering from this disorder.
Connective tissue disease or collagen vascular disease is a group of autoimmune disorders with no known causes. The connective tissues are the ones that bind together and support the different organs in the body. These are made up of collagen and elastin, which are protein molecules. Elastin is the one that is responsible for the stretch and return of ligaments to their original state while collagen is the main component of tissues, ligaments and other body parts. There are different kinds of connective tissue disorder including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, dermatomyositis and polyarteritis nodosa.
In order to know if you have connective tissue disease, you will have to learn about the different signs and symptoms. These will depend on the particular type of collagen vascular disease that you have but there are some manifestations that are common among them. There will be manifestations involving the bones and the joints such as swelling, redness and pain on the joints, problems with growth and having loose joints. You may also experience scarring, blisters, bruising, skin discolorations and other similar signs. Other symptoms include fever, fatigue, body malaise, muscle pains and swelling of the hands and fingers. Once you notice these changes, you need to see your doctor so that you will be properly assessed. Assessment and different tests will allow the doctor to come up with an accurate diagnosis so that a treatment plan will be made for you.
The treatment of connective tissue disease will depend on the particular type of disorder that you have. You will be given certain medications that will manage the manifestations that you have. Anti-inflammatory medications are commonly given to reduce the swelling and redness as well as manage the pain. On your part, you should also do some lifestyle changes for you to maintain an optimum health condition. You should see to it that you are properly hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and water. You should have plenty of rest and have enough exercises. A balanced diet is also required as well as maintaining a healthy body weight. It is also of utmost importance that you follow the instructions that your doctor has given to you. Take your medications as ordered and if there are foods and activities that you need to avoid, then do so. Have regular check ups too so that your progress will be monitored.
When you do these treatment methods and lifestyle changes that were mentioned, you will then be avoiding the complications of connective tissue disorder. These complications include difficulties with doing your daily activities, worsening of pain and possible dysfunction, deformities and destruction of your joints. Also, when you do these management tips you will be able to maintain the quality of your life, being able to do your tasks without too much discomfort.
